Qualifying for the 2023 World Short Track Championship has been suspended and this means that all entrants (including Mathieu van der Poel) will be able to take part directly in the final. But why were they suspended? They have been suspended because the entries are within the maximum limit of participants for the finals and therefore there is no need to further screen the participants with qualifying heats.
Contrary to what happens in the MTB World Cup, where participation in the Short Track depends on the absolute World Cup position and the UCI ranking, in the Short Track World Championship the teams can register their riders without particular criteria and, in if there are more entries than the maximum number of participants established for the Short Track by the marshals, a series of qualifying sessions are carried out (a time trial on the Short Track course) to select the bikers who access the final.
ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE 2023 MTB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
All registered participants will be able to participate in the final on Thursday
Mathieu van der Poel had made it known that the Short Track world championship was in doubt precisely because of the qualifications, which should have been held today just 2 days after the road world championship (won by the Dutch). Van der Poel is one of the entries for the race and therefore now enters the final by right.
Not having to qualify on Tuesday, there is a possibility that Mathieu will participate in the Short Track. This will be decided later – Dutch Federation
Knowing all of Mathieu Van de Poel's competitive character, we think he won't give up this opportunity: we'll see! Tom Pidcock will also be in the match: a great show is shaping up.
