Gerhard Kerschbaumer stops professional activity

A few days before the Cup final in Val di Sole, and after the victory of the Italian XCO, Gerhard Kerschbaumer makes an announcement that shakes the environment: at 31 he stops racing.

It's time to say goodbye. I'm ending my career as a professional Cross Country mountain biker.

I was eleven when I did my first race, and now twenty years later, I will have my XCO final in Val di Sole. I have had a successful career, but now my life priorities have changed. I am the husband and father of two beautiful boys, which motivates me to turn the page and focus on family. I want to see my kids grow and live life with them more deeply.

I thank my team for the perfect moment (Specialized Factory, ed) in the last two years and the Italian national team that I have been a part of for many years. Thanks to all my fans, friends and especially my family. To my parents, who have always supported me since my first race, and to my wife and children. Now a new chapter in my life will begin, and I am ready for it - Gerhard Kerschbaumer
