In road cycling, choosing the right saddle and proper positioning are crucial: hours of pedaling in a static position require adequate support, an optimal position, and above all, a saddle that adapts to the cyclist's shape. This is an often overlooked element, but it can make the difference between a long, enjoyable ride and an experience marked by discomfort and pain.
This aspect takes on even greater importance in gravel riding. In addition to the many hours spent in the saddle, the constant vibrations generated by dirt surfaces come into play, increasing stress on the pelvis, back, and lower back. For this reason, comfort isn't just a matter of convenience, but also becomes a key factor in maintaining efficiency and control of the bike during longer rides.
It is precisely from these needs that the new Selle Italia SLR Gravel, a gravel-specific version of the famous SLR family. Following the debut of the fourth-generation SLR last year, the Italian company is expanding the range with a model specifically designed to tackle the challenges of off-road riding.
Bow Rail System: more flexibility and less vibration
The main technical innovation is represented by the Bow Rail System, a proprietary technology from Selle Italia that leverages the combined action of the rail and the frame to increase the saddle's flexibility and improve vibration absorption. This solution, already seen on other models in the range, is now making its debut on the SLR platform.
This system is supported by specific Shock Absorbers, designed to handle the stresses typical of gravel riding and make pedaling smoother, more stable and comfortable even on the roughest terrain.
More comfort without distorting the SLR
While maintaining the sporty character that made the SLR family famous, the new Gravel version introduces some changes designed to increase comfort on long journeys.
The padding has been increased and the saddle tip has been widened, offering superior support without changing the typical SLR feel. The dimensions and sizes of the range remain unchanged, with the versions S3 e L3, easily recognisable thanks to the new dedicated graphics present under the hull.
An insert against mud and water
Among the most interesting innovations we find an accessory developed starting from the feedback of gravel users: a removable insert which closes the central hole superflow.
When the ground is particularly wet or muddy, the plug prevents water and dirt from seeping through the hole, helping to keep the shorts dry. A simple yet practical solution, it can be removed in seconds to return to the open configuration under normal conditions.
Designed for off-road
The new SLR Gravel also features reinforced side edges to better resist impacts and abrasions typical of off-road use, as well as reflective inserts that improve visibility during low-light rides.
