Rainbow shades at the Sardinia Mountain Bike Rally. Diego Arias, vice-champion of the World Marathon 2021, has in fact confirmed his participation in the ninth edition of the stage race scheduled from 7 to 11 June next in the heart of the island. A first level star for the second event of the Sardegna Outdoor project, organized by Wild Track ASD under the aegis of the Italian Cycling Federation.

"I have a wonderful memory of Sardinia and its routes - explains the two-time Colombian national champion, second in the 2021 World Championship on the Island of Elba - and I'm sure that the Rally di Sardegna Mountain Bike will be a great experience, also because I have a particular preference for stage races. In addition to the importance of the race itself, I believe that the Rally of Sardinia can also be an excellent test bench in view of the Sellaronda Hero, which will take place the following week ".
Winner in 2021 of races such as the Etna Extreme, the Conquistadores Cup, the 100 Km dei Forti, the Tour des Salasses Mont Blanc and the Gimondi Bike, this year Arias finished third in the Gaerne MTB Trophy before a "pit stop" recovery linked to a fall at the GF Muretto di Alassio. The Colombian, however, paws to return to the top and inflame the fans of the Sardinia Mountain Bike Rally. “I believe and hope to arrive in good condition and as my usual show and battle: it is my way of running and it will never change”, the words of the 34-year-old athlete from Team Hubbers-Polimedical.
It will not be his first time on the island: “From Sardinia I remember the preparation for the 2015 season, which took place between January and February. What struck me about Sardinia? The routes, the landscapes and the warmth of the people ". Where is it that we will see the best Arias, it is easy to say: "I prefer long distances and uphill finishes - concludes Diego - and this race seems made for me".
On the registration front, the organizers have adopted a special formula which provides for a reduced fee of 500 euros by 31 May and a special rate of 250 euros for the first 50 members. From 1 June onwards, admission to the event costs 600 euros.
At the Rally di Sardegna it is also possible to participate in non-competitive “Rally Tours” on the paths of the champions, the first dedicated to muscular MTBs and the second dedicated to e-MTBs, at a cost of 500 euros.
