This morning Val di Sole woke up under a light rain which, alternating with some clear spells, accompanied the athletes during the morning free practice, up to the start of the final heat of the third stage of the iXS European Downhill Cup. As a result, compared to yesterday, the track underwent a clear change due to the mud, which increased its already high level of technicality. The numerous riders who took on the route therefore found themselves having to adapt to the new characteristics of the terrain, trying to give their best despite the adverse conditions.
The Austrian David Trummer of RRP Ghost knows something about it, who was able to set the most effective trajectories, winning by a large margin over his pursuers. Over 8.4 seconds the gap on compatriot Manuel Gruber (Radon Factory DH), who is positioned in second place. Philip Atwill (RRP Ghost) climbs the third step of the podium, followed in fourth by Mark Wallace (Devinci Global Racing) and in fifth by James Swinden (This is Sheffield). Only sixth was the winner of the qualifying heats, Rupert Chapman. Favorite Nick Beer (Devinci Global Racing) had a clear advantage over his opponents before going off the track near the final jump, a few meters from the finish line, thus losing all the advantage he had accumulated and finishing in 18th position.
The best of the Italians in the race was Alan Beggin (360Degrees) who finished in 12th place, after a long hot seat, followed in 13th place by Carlo Caire (Argentina Bike) and Gianluca Vernassa (Devinci Global Racing) in 15th position .
In the Elite Women category Jana Bártová (Bikeplac Racing Team) confirms the excellent performance of the qualifying heat, also winning the final heat. She follows the Slovenian Zarja Cernilogar (Blackthorn GT) with just over 1 second behind. The Swiss Carina Cappellari (Suspension Center) closes the podium. The Trentino athlete Eleonora Farina of Mangusta Bike team conquers an excellent fourth position, while the Italian champion Alia Marcellini (Lee Cougan Dirty Factory team) closes in sixth place.
The Under17 category saw many young athletes involved in representing the Italian DH national team. Unfortunately, they could do nothing against the excellent time of the very strong Australian Remy Morton (NS Dynamics), who would have done well also in the Elite category. The following positions are all Italian: Federico Monzoni (Smile Bike) is the one who comes closest to undermining the first position, followed by Andrea Bianciotto (Sestriere Bike Club) and Mirko Manazzale (Airoh Axo Santacruz).
Among the Masters the Italian Fabrizio Dragoni (Alessi Racing Team) dominates, leaving Rotislav Stencel (Bikeplac Racing team) in second position almost 5 seconds behind. Ten seconds instead separate the third finish, Rhys Evans (Maixm Bikes) from the excellent time of Dragoni. In fourth place another Italian, Paolo Alleva (Scout NukeProof), followed in sixth place by team mate Manuel Dal Pozzo.
Val di Sole will make a comeback in August 2015 with the final round of the UCI DH World Cup circuit, a prelude to the UCI DH World Championship, the world's leading off-road cycling event, which will take place in 2016.
