Returning to cycling in 2017, a sector that well interprets its values as a leading brand in sustainability, Pirelli presented the first MTB tires in February 2019. At the same time, the partnership with a world-class elite team, the current TREK PIRELLI, began.
Developed precisely at the specific request of the TREK PIRELLI athletes, the new rubber is a 100% racing product, created to meet the high performance needs of bikers of the caliber of Vlad Dascalu, European Champion, World Champion and winner of the World Cup. World, cat. U23 XCO and Samuele Porro, Italian Champion, silver at the European Championships and bronze at the XCM World Championships.
Samuele Porro himself had asked Pirelli engineers for a tire more oriented towards Olympic Cross Country races but with excellent performance also in XCM. The technicians of the P lunga have therefore developed a racing product of the highest profile, capable of offering lightness, super smoothness and good grip. Thus, the Scorpion XC RC was born.
A VERY FAST RUBBER, FOR THE GARe
A few months later, in October 2019, Samuele Porro and teammates received the first prototypes. The new tires, with the “Prototype” label, were tested during the team's training camp in Calpe (ES). Porro also tested them in a training session on the very tough Cape Epic track in South Africa. The baptism then took place in the first races of the calendar, including the Mediterranean Epic and the Andalucia Bike Race.
From a technical point of view, the new XC RC are Tubeless Ready tires, with a 120 TPI Nylon construction. Available in LITE and ProWALL versions, for increased puncture protection, they combine Pirelli's proprietary technologies already available in the Scorpion MTB range, starting with the innovative SmartGRIP Compound.
Derived from Pirelli's experience in Motorsport, SmartGRIP Compound is a mono-compound with high mechanical resistance that, despite the increased smoothness and lightness of the new RC tire, offers excellent stability, long life and, above all, optimal grip on all terrains. Pirelli paid particular attention to the tread design, which incorporates characteristics derived from both the Scorpion XC H (Hard) and the Scorpion XC M (Mixed), re-engineered for more direct and precise handling. In particular, the knobs in the center of the tread clearly recall the Scorpion XC H, but are lower and closer together to further improve smoothness on straight sections, while the mid-lean and lateral knobs have the shape and attack angle of the Scorpion XC M. These have also been revised to maximize grip at different lean angles. The profile with more aggressive sides and a smoother center makes the Scorpion XC RC the perfect weapon for conquering modern Olympic Cross Country courses, which are technically very selective.

The new Scorpion XC RC is already available in the best cycling shops, in the 29 ”x 2.2 version, also in the“ Team ”color variant (with yellow logos).
SCORPION MTB: THE RANGE IS INCREASINGLY COMPLETE
The new Scorpion XC RC extend the Pirelli Scorpion MTB range dedicated to Mountain Bike. The line in the 2020 catalog has three specific macro-families, designed for the main MTB disciplines:
Scorpion XC, with RC (Racing), R (Rear), M (Mixed), S (Soft), H (Hard) profiles
Scorpion Trail available with M, S, R and H profiles
Scorpion Enduro, with M, S, R profiles
Globally, among the LITE, ProWALL, Classic (color Para) and Team (with yellow logos) versions, the 2020 range, which Pirelli offers to fans of "fat wheels", now has over 37 different tires, with diameters starting from the classic 29 "x2.2 up to 27,5" x2.6.
