History
Now in its 4th edition, Piemontgravel was born as a natural necessity to offer a precious opportunity to cycling enthusiasts to fully explore the Piedmontese territories. The event is the result of a thirty-year exploration of the Region by a group of friends and fervent cycling enthusiasts, in particular gravel cycling. Participants, thanks to Piemontgravel, will thus have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the territory, but also of the traditions connected to it.
The routes
The Piemontgravel includes routes that touch areas of great naturalistic, cultural and sporting importance in Piedmont: in addition to the areas of Langhe and Roero, we will explore, among others, the flat territories of the Cuneo area, the moraine lakes of Avigliana and the panoramic hills of Turin.
The routes wind through richly varied types of terrain. For this reason, a gravel bicycle is ideal, but a mountain bike (preferably front) may also be suitable, as the percentage of dirt roads and paths is very high. The routes, different from year to year, aim to offer members a ride that is as pleasant as possible, captivating but at the same time sometimes technical, where you travel along dirt roads, paths and short stretches of secondary asphalted roads, always accompanied by the backdrop of the Alpine arc.
- 111 wrong
The route winds along the territory of the Langa del Barolo, passing through the historic centers of the most beautiful villages of the UNESCO site, including Grinzane Cavour, Serralunga, Serravalle, Dogliani, Manforte, Barolo and La Morra.
- the 222
The first part of the route develops along the Barolo hills, then reaching the plain, with its enchanting historic centres; passages in surprisingly suggestive areas are included, such as the Fossano bridge and the archaeological area of Bene Vagienna. Once you reach the castle of Racconigi you will return along the Roero forest park with its beautiful paths, sometimes technical but always fun and walkable.
- the 333
It offers a broad overview of the Langhe, the Turin hills and the Roero. The route will be the same as the 222, but once you have passed the town of Racconigi you will travel several kilometers on very smooth dirt roads until you enter the Turin hills. Once you reach the Don Bosco hill and cross the incredible Rocche del Roero, the route rejoins the final part of 111 and 222.
- the 444
Like 333, 444 also offers a broad overview of the Langhe, the Turin hills and the Roero. The big news will be two; the passage from the city of Turin, along the cycle banks of the Po river in the Valentino Park and a taste of our pre-Cottian Alps, between the province of Cuneo and the province of Turin.
Not just cycling
The Piemontgravel, which over the years has become a point of reference in the field of Piedmontese cycling events, is not only an event dedicated to sporting activities but also one of aggregation and sharing. Although the routes are the focus of the event, over the course of the 3 days you will learn more about the tradition and culture of a large and varied region. During the moments of sharing, which will be held inside the village, you will taste the typical foods and wines of the areas within which the four routes unfold with other cycle travellers.
