Nicolai presents a limited edition set-up of the Saturn 11: the new Super Light set-up offers tight components that bring the Saturn under 10kg (a goal that years ago was easily achievable in XC products but which, with modern bikes, is always seen rarely).
The Saturn 11 SL tips the scales at 9,95kg without pedals. The frame is designed and handmade in Germany. Limited number of 99 pieces with a price of €11.799.
Nicolai produces in-house in Germany and has no carbon models in the catalogue. Its focus is on gravity bikes but it offers XC models, albeit with very modern and often out of the ordinary geometry.
HORST CUSHIONING SCHEME
The Nicolai Saturn 11 SL is a limited edition of their XC and down-country model. It has 105mm of rear suspension and mounts 120mm of travel fork. It's rare that anyone looks for record weights on an aluminum frame, but that's exactly what Nicolai has done, going against the grain. It is a limited edition of 99 units and is priced at €11.799. Its aluminum frame uses a horst-link rear suspension system in the chainstays, something rare.
One of the keys to its weight is its wheels, with Bike Ahead rims and Pi-Rope hubs and spokes made from woven Vectran synthetic fibers. Weight? 1kg the pair! The assembly is as German as possible with the brakes being Magura MT8.
Perhaps the only element that seems a little out of place is the Bike Ahead “The Straight” seatpost, which is ultralight but doesn't quite fit a model like the Nicolai Saturn 11 that is clamoring for a dropper post. But on the other hand, with a telescopic seatpost it would not be possible to keep the weight just below 9kg.
