A new GPS for cycling capable of identifying significant sections of a track and launching challenges against other cyclists who have already traveled that road or who will pass through it later. Edge 1000 notifies the user of the start and end of the “timed” stretch to feed a virtual ranking on Garmin Connect. Cycling is made up of challenges and climbing is the terrain on which to duel. All cyclists have a handful of ascents on which to measure their form, but also where to challenge friends and teammates. From today these comparisons will have a new dimension.
Thanks to the newcomer to Garmin, Edge 1000, the challenges on reference roads of the individual cyclist communities become not only “direct” but also virtual. With the new "segments" function, the GPS bike computer signals the start of the stretch of road from which to accelerate: whether it is a historic climb at the foot of the Dolomites or a long straight road to be pedaled in an aerodynamic position, Edge 1000 automatically starts the stopwatch that is will stop at the end of the route. So far everything is ok, but it will only be on returning home that the cyclist will be able to find out his position within the specific ranking of that road section on Garmin Connect ™. It will be an opportunity to analyze their times on the "usual climb" or to discover new "adversaries" and expand their circle of colleagues on bicycles. The latest addition to the Edge family, with the "segments" function thus raises the bar for performance.

Edge 1000 can be paired with your smartphone (iPhone® 4s and later) in order to receive and view e-mail and sms notifications, and it is also possible to update your data profile on Garmin Connect ™ at any time via Wireless, Smart transmission protocols. Bluetooth®, and even Wi-Fi®.

Edge 1000 comes with a preloaded Garmin Cycle Map Europe map that includes OSM (Open Street Map) content with easily navigable roads, cycle paths, elevation data, points of interest (including parks and trails) and address search, with directions for bend after bend, just like a car navigator. On Edge 1000, therefore, you will find specific maps preloaded for both road cycling and mountain biking. With the Round Trip Routing function, the cyclist just needs to enter how many kilometers he wants to travel and Edge 1000 will provide three different path options to choose from, specifying the route and altitude profiles, so as not to have to sustain climbs that are too demanding for his preparation. The tracks can be studied among themselves, in order to identify the one that best suits your requests.

Edge 1000 is equipped with a 3-inch high-resolution color touch screen display (which can also be used while wearing gloves). The pages can be customized with numerous data fields, so that you can monitor your progress, whether you are on a dirt road, on the road or along a cycling route. In addition, the ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen according to the external lighting conditions. Rugged and water resistant, Edge 1000 has an autonomy of up to 15 hours and an IPX7 waterproof rating.
Speed and cadence.
Edge 1000 integrates with Shimano Di2 electronic shifting systems to display what type of chainring and sprocket you have inserted. You will also be able to view the charge status of the electronic gear battery. It is also compatible - through ANT + ™ technology - with the Vector ™ heart rate monitor and power meter, and Garmin's new speed and cadence sensors. The latter are easy to install and calibrate on your bike, they record the speed and distance even with GPS inactive (as when we are in the tunnel), as well as provide cadence data per minute, allowing a detailed analysis of the workouts making them more and more effective and optimal. Without magnets, because they have an internal accelerometer, or other exposed parts, the new speed and cadence sensors can be easily moved from one bike to another.

The innovative Garmin accessory that will allow you to ride safely without ever taking your hands off the handlebar. It is possible to position it on the right / left brake side and direct it in the direction that is most comfortable for you to reach with your fingers.
