MTB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS | Tom Pidcock won with gearbox problems

Tom Pidcock showed class and watts to sell at the Scottish world championship: no one could oppose him, not even an ever present Nino Schurter (READ RACE REPORT). Thomas Pidcock also said the about him UCI decision to favor Peter Sagan and Mathieu Van der Poel the day before the world championship. We recall that the decision partially benefited Pidcock, given that he already had important UCI points having won the inaugural round of the Cup in Nove Mesto.

Victor Koretzky, perhaps too blatantly, demonstrated his indignation making the umbrella gesture upon arrival and getting a fine from the UCI.

He then confessed to having won despite some gearbox problems for most of the race, not being able to use all the gears. One possibility may be that the rear axle has loosened slightly causing the shifter to work poorly. In fact, during the race, it could be seen that Pidcock often pushed gears that were too hard.

I feel good. It's a big relief, it's been a long week to get to this world championship and in front of the home crowd it's very special. My gearbox wasn't working very well, it was jumping on every climb and I couldn't get the rhythm, I thought it could all go to waste at any moment. It was frustrating because I couldn't attack the way I wanted. Now I've had a look at my bike and it doesn't seem to be out of tune so I don't know what happened, if I damaged it or something – Tom Pidcock
