A very unfortunate 2022 for the strong Czech athlete: Milan Vader had signed with Jumbo Visma in January of this year, only to find himself involved in a serious fall which left him in a coma for 2 weeks and with severe injuries. The crash took place in the penultimate stage of the Tour of the Basque Country, a stage race on the road (last April).

Vader was the best Dutchman at the Tokyo Olympics "2020" finishing in 10th place, also thanks to the debacle of Mathieu Van Der Poel, and it arrived 2nd in the 2020 World Cup overall.

THE RECOVERY

Six months have passed since that bad fall, which in addition to how it caused him multiple fractures and injuries to the carotid arteries. The entire rehabilitation phase was spent in a hospital in Bilbao before being transferred to Erasmus MC in Rotterdam once a more stable situation was reached. There was a doubt that the extent of his injuries could become incompatible with the practice of professional cycling. But, fortunately, this was not the case.

Now he is ready to take part in the Tour of Croatia, where the winner of the Tour de France Jonas Vingegaard is also back in the race: "The Bilbao staff saved my life. They are heroes to me".

ppgad@pucrs.br I am passionate about everything that has 2 wheels: in my youth I practiced competitive cycling on the road and on the track with good results. At the age of 18 I moved to cross country competing at national/international level as U23. Once I passed Elite, I made the choice to take things easier from the training point of view, and that's how my love for gravity disciplines was born, training as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made my passion my profession by managing 3 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way, everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube 'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
