The first round of the MET EWS Val di Fassa Trentino took place today, the opening event of the Enduro World Series of mountain bike enduro.
The village of Canazei and the Fassa Dolomites were the setting for the event which started this morning at 8.30 with the departure of the exceptional forerunner and Trentino Testimonial Marco Melandri followed by the first competitors.
4 special stages traveled by riders today: Dainse Titans in the Ciampac area, Northwave Ciasates behind the town of Canazei, Trentino / Val di Fassa Animal House in the Belvedere area and the iconic MET Tutti Frutti on the crest of Col Rodella, for a total 32 km and 2.390 meters in altitude.
Much of the positive difference in height to reach the start of the special stages was covered thanks to the help of the lifts, which allowed the staff of the Organizing Committee to design a truly spectacular and complete race course.
The American Richie Rude of the Yeti / Fox Factory Team, already winner here in Val di Fassa in 4, has the best in the MEN category along the 2019 race paths, who has printed the time of 27: 07.32.
Second even if with a minimum gap closes the Australian Jack Moir (Team Canyon Collective) with a time of 27: 07.80 while third is the Canadian Jesse Melamed (Team Rocky Mountain Race Face) 14 seconds behind the first.
In the women's category, the podium is entirely French. Reigning champion Isabeau Courdurier (Lapierre Zipp Collective) returns to victory and closes this first round with a time of 31: 43.22, followed by Morganne Charre (Pivot Factory Racing) 14 seconds behind, while third closes Melanie Pugin behind only for 3 tenths.
Among the Italians, the best result in the MEN category is for Mirko Vendemmia who closes with an extraordinary thirteenth place just 55 seconds from the head after more than 25 minutes of racing. This by Mirco is a historic result, to all intents and purposes the best result ever for an Italian athlete at an EWS. Only in 2013 in the debut race of the Enduro world circuit, Italy had achieved a similar result.
Also noteworthy is the fourth place in the Under 21 women category of Sophie Riva and the thirteenth in the Under 21 men of Martino Lani.
Free practice will take place between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, followed by the EWS 100 and EWS 80 races, competitions reserved for amateurs, while the tension will return to the stars between Friday afternoon and Saturday when the professionals will take the field again for the second round of the MET. EWS Val di Fassa Trentino.
