It also increases tire clearance and standover, providing more comfort and capability, with handling that keeps the hardtail fire burning. The BIG.NINE of Merida has a long and successful history, with countless race victories, including World Championships and World Cups. Although at the time of launch it was an innovative product for handling, comfort and low weight, a new way of riding and racing requires constant updating. For this Merida has completely revised the BIG.NINE to make it suitable for the needs of modern racing and competitions cross-country.
Available with both carbon and aluminum frames, the new BIG.NINE exhibits a renewed geometry to improve descent and climbing capabilities without affecting the main impulse of this bike: to go fast. With a new design of the lowered frame that increases the support space and the sensation of comfort, in fact, the geometry is much more capable on descents, but the speed on singletrack is not affected. It also increases the clearance for tires up to 29×2,4″ for greater grip and traction.
Merida also used the AGILOMETER sizing system, already seen on bikes in the all-mountain and enduro ranges. Super short seat tubes allow you to choose your preferred handling based on flow rate: longer for stability, for those who want to face descents at the maximum competitiveness; shorter for agility, for singletrack; or somewhere in between for a balance of both options.
In addition to the classic and race-proven BIG.NINE, which brings the traditional 100mm of front suspension travel, fast-rolling tires and a weight-saving rigid seatpost to the race, the new BIG.NINE family is excited to add the TR, the “trail”, to the line-up. The new BIG.NINE TR models add standard 120mm forks with longer travel and more complete kit making it an excellent choice for anyone who wants added downhill performance without the added weight or expense of a full suspension bike. In addition to the longer-travel fork, the bikes will come standard with more aggressive, heavy-tread tires, as well as a dropper post.
The new BIG.NINE and BIG.NINE TR will soon be available in Italy in the BIG.NINE TR 8000, BIG.NINE 3000 and BIG.NINE XT models.
