Wide rims are nothing new for Trail, Enduro and Downhill. Using wide rims with Wide Trail (WT) tires allows riders to run lower tire pressures, improving traction, comfort, and reducing rolling resistance. Now that wide rims have made their way to cross-country bikes, Maxxis is offering a new Wide Trail (WT) spec for the Aspen and Rekon Race tires. Developed under the guidance of Nino Schurter, Kate Courtney and the entire SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team, Maxxis WT XC tires are optimized for use with rims with a 30mm rim.
"The improved traction of the WT XC tires helps control the bike in the most difficult sections. I can pedal to the limit while maintaining total control of my bike."- Nino Schurter
Maxxis Wide Trail XC tires are optimized for use with a 30mm channel interior. A Maxxis WT XC tire mounted on a 30mm rim will measure 2.40 ″ with an inflation pressure of 25 PSI. Maxxis WT XC tires are suitable for rims with internal rims starting from 25mm. Maxxis does not recommend use with rims with a channel interior of less than 25mm or greater than 30mm. Maxxis recommends a margin of at least 6mm between the cover and all parts of the bicycle (frame and fork).
Maxxis recommends the use of this cover with rims with a 25-30mm channel interior (optimal 30mm). Maxxis recommends a margin of at least 6mm between the cover and all parts of the bicycle (frame and fork).
Not all XC bikes offer enough room for wide tires. Consult your bike manufacturer for specific measurements. The bikes below have been tested and approved for use with our Wide Trail XC tires:
"In my opinion, the two most important factors in a hedge are performance and durability. WT XC tires are the best combination of both.”- Kate Courtney
