Mathieu Van Der Poel makes no mistake and, after inaugurating the last Tour with the first yellow jersey, he also takes the first pink jersey.

At the first stage of the giro d'italia 2022, which started from Budapest, the Dutchman Mathieu Van Der Poel put everyone in line.

The only one who tried to annoy him was Biniam Girmay, the Eritrean who is rising to world prominence after becoming the first African to win a classic from the north.

“It was really difficult to hold the position on the last climb. I was closed several times and had to find space, which cost me a lot of energy ”, reports Van Der Poel,“ I am very happy to have the pink jersey after the yellow jersey. This was a unique opportunity to try to take it, it doesn't happen every year that I have the chance to take the pink jersey on a stage with a finish suited to my characteristics ”.
