Marika Tovo abandons cycling: "I want to feel good about myself"

Marika Tovo, one of our most promising XCO athletes, leaves the world of MTB with a hint of regret.

Fourth place for Marika Tovo in the Women U23 race (2021 World Championships XCO Val di Sole)

2022 I greet you like this, with the truth. You've been a cruel year, full of changes, negative for the most part and positive for the rest. I left the world of cycling and this was certainly the wisest choice I've made this year, the only one I've never regretted even one day.
I've heard too many criticisms, opinions and unsolicited judgments, but that's okay, the only problem is that unfortunately I always feel I'm wrong, so I won't hide that they made me suffer and I let myself be caught unprepared by all of this. I've changed mentally and physically, this thing has destroyed me, I admit it, I wasn't used to seeing my body change like this, but the first thing I'd like to achieve from 2023 is to feel good about myself again, certainly not like before when I sport was my life, but i just want to feel accepted.
Having said that, now all that remains is to work hard to obtain in 2023 what I lost in 2022, a little self-esteem and the desire to dream big.
See you next year💚

THE CAREER OF MARIKA TOVO

Marika was born in Arzignano (VI) on May 13, 1999. She started pedaling at the age of 12 with the Victoria Bike, immediately winning some great victories. In 2017 she begins her appearance in the competitions that count for her: she wins various trials of the Internazionali D'Italia Series and is absolute Italian XCO champion. The following year she continued her winning streak: she triumphed in the Mtb Relay European Championships and finished in 3rd place at the Internazionali D'Italia Series XCO. In 2019 an offer arrives that she can't refuse: the international Ghost Factory team wants her as an athlete in her team.

But 2019 is a black year: no results arrive, also thanks to a serious injury during the Nove Mesto World Cup test (broken kneecap). At the end of the year, Ghost won't renew his contract and therefore Marika gets married to the KTM Protek Elettrosystem Team: but there are many doubts in her head that will lead her to stop during 2022, after catching Covid and no longer being able to find the shape of better days.

He has already been working in the fashion industry for a few months (Summer 2022). Good luck with everything Marika.
