Everyone had included him among the outsiders and Marco Milivinti did not betray expectations. The Torpado Factory Team rider in Sestri Levante signed the first stage of the Superenduro Powered By SRAM 2014.
The Valtellinese was a growing race, complete with victory in the Red Bull special stage, number 5. The Ligurian trails gave the first verdicts of a crackling season, with a close battle between the big Italians and many young people ready to enter in the top positions.
In second place Alex Lupato (Lapierre - FRM Factory Racing Team), who confirms himself at the top, followed by Manuel Ducci (Ibis - Life Cycle), who entered in optimal condition only in the final race, but still satisfied with the result. The Sanremo overtook Vittorio Gambirasio (Trek - Officine Red Bike) on the Red Bull special stage, at the end of the fourth, who finished ahead of Nicola Casadei, fifth despite the time lost on Saturday. The top Ten is completed by Davide Sottocornola (SantaCruz - Cicobikes Dsb Ion Nonsolofango), the German Tobias Reiser (Focus Trail Team), Andrea Gamenara (Ancillotti Doganaccia), Bruno Zanchi (Santacruz - Team Airoh Axo) and the Slovenian Kristijan Medvescek (Blackhorn GT UCI Mtb Team).
Bad luck for Denny Lupato (Lapierre - FRM Factory Racing Team), long on the virtual podium but removed from the top positions due to a puncture. Alex's younger brother has confirmed that he is already at the top and will certainly be one of the protagonists of the season. The twists were not lacking even in the women's race, especially lively on the last special stage. The victory went to Louise Pauline (Cannondale - Oddonebici), with a final crescendo of Valentina Macheda (Ibis - Life Cycle), at the end second but slowed down by some traffic problem. Third place for Alia Marcellini (Lee Cougan Dirty Factory Team) ahead of Laura Rossin (Devinci - DreamTeam Genova) and Lorraine Truong (Norco - Lysin Oxigea).
The Superenduro circuit got off to a great start, with some important innovations successfully tested. The service park was one of the most interesting and excited phases of the weekend. The service area highlighted the hard work of the mechanics and put a strain on the technical skills of the riders. The tension built up at the end of the stage then dissolved with the delivery of the bikes to the parc fermé.
These are the comments from the riders upon arrival: Marco Milivinti - “I'm very happy, I didn't think I'd win on the last special, which didn't suit my characteristics. It's nice to be at the level of the big enduro players in the first PRO race. I will try to prepare as best I can for the next races, as I did for Sestri ”.
Alex Lupato - “Marco was very fast today, I did a good special at the end, even if it wasn't perfect. Congratulations to Marco anyway, he did a great race ”.
Manuel Ducci - “I paid for the period of inactivity, I trained a lot but I lacked race pace. I got into the ball in the last special and the result was seen. We knew that Milivinti would not be a surprise, he has always had a great handle ”.
Louise Pauline: “I was a little away from competitions, I took a bit of a break after the birth of my two daughters. The race went well, yesterday I defended myself while pedaling, today I attacked downhill but it was really hard to keep up with the race. The level of the girls has increased a lot, I was pleased that the women started first ".
With the first PRO stage filed, the Superenduro Powered By SRAM is preparing for two weekends in series at the beginning of May, with the Priero Experience followed by the second PRO in Punta Ala.
