It all started with my dad's gift of the 24-inch 10th birthday, a Giant flash. He got on the saddle and he hasn't gotten off since that day. He was a professional athlete and dominator of the Italian Cyclocross in the years from 2003 to 2011 during which he wore the tricolor jersey 3 times.
From 2011 he changed specialties, jumping on the saddle of the mountain bike where, in X-country, he won the Olympic bronze in London 2012 in the legendary race in which, on the last lap, he even lost the saddle! A technical problem that did not prevent Fontana from holding on to that third place that earned him a career.
This is Marco Aurelio Fontana, the new Northwave sports marketing manager, known not only for his countless sporting successes, but also for having used the “Baggy” in an XC race, as the first in the world.
A choice, at that time, completely out of the box for the world of cross-country, where Lycra bibs were the only possible choice. But Marco Aurelio Fontana has always been an unconventional athlete, always ready to break in with his playful and ironic style and always ready to try new technical and design solutions but without accepting, at the same time, compromises in terms of maximum performance of his technical equipment. A new and captivating approach to the mountain bike world that is perfectly suited to the Northwave one, which has always been hyper-technical and at the same time "disruptive" and surprising in design and style.
Marco Aurelio therefore begins his new adventure, jumping from the "other part of the desk" and following all the Northwave mountain bike projects related to athletes and events: "I am proud and happy to be part of the NW world with a role in I am new but where I see myself ready to give my support and bring my vision that already goes well with that of the Team. Genky (as Giancarlo Bettin is called in the world of MTB) has been an example and a friend for all these years, now I will be the new MTB Sport Marketing Manager, what a style! "
Northwave, once again, proves to be the company that looks ahead with passion and competence; a company and a brand that in recent years has revolutionized and reorganized itself and which today has strengthened its leadership in the two-wheeler market thanks also to the addition of new resources and skills of which the champion Fontana is a clear example.
Davide Rossetti, Northwave General Manager states: “The history of Northwave is linked to the world of mountain biking which has always represented our main market. For over 20 years, full of results and mutual satisfaction, we have collaborated with Giancarlo Bettin, first as an athlete and then as a referent for athletes. We have identified in Marco Aurelio Fontana the ideal profile that could guarantee us the natural continuation in this path and with him we are already working to give greater development to this position to prepare for the season, the years to come but above all a 360-degree plan between the company. , athletes and communities ".
Niccolò Mattos, Northwave Art Director and Communication Manager adds: "Marco will be part of the work team that aims to interconnect sport / communication / vision, a heterogeneous group where mtb, snowboard, road bike and lifestyle are the different players of a common project, to represent Northwave in the universe and in the metaverse of action sport ".
Northwave sends a big "good luck" and warmly welcomes the champion Marco Aurelio Fontana with the wish to achieve the same sporting successes also in the new manager role.
