The Island of Elba awaits the show of Internazionali d'Italia

The appointment with Capoliveri Legend XCO is approaching, the third stage of the most important Italian Cross Country circuit (16-18 April). Headlights on a fast and spectacular course. The technician Enrico Martello: “A bit Pietermaritzburg and a bit Rio: on Elba the difference is made on the descent”.

From “Elba Training Camp” to “Capoliveri Legend XCO”, the step is short. After all, some of the main protagonists, both in the reality show that accompanied the training camp of Celestino's blues in February and in the third stage of the Internazionali d'Italia Series, scheduled for Saturday 16 and Monday 18 April, are the same.

In the second edition of the international Cross Country race on Elba Island, the ASD Capoliveri Bike Park event obtained promotion to the HC category, thanks to one of the fastest, most technical and spectacular courses in the world: 4500 meters and 170 meters of positive difference in altitude obtained at the foot of Monte Calamita thanks to the technical consultancy of Enrico Martello.

“Compared to last year - explains Martello - the circuit is even faster in the final part. Instead of a single track descent, we have inserted a passage on the logs, similar in difficulty to the passages of the Rio 2016 Olympic route and the 2013 Pietermaritzburg World Cup ring. In addition, there are other similarities with the Rio circuit: a succession very fast of passages on rocks, walkway on rocks, and another hump that leads to the wooden parabolic. "

The hope is that the similarities with Pietermaritzburg 2013 could trigger the spark to Gerhard Kerschbaumer, who 9 years ago in South Africa graduated U23 World Champion but so far subdued in this early season.

“It's a race that is won and lost on the descent. The long dive towards the finish remains the crux. Obviously, the uphill jerks will also be felt, but the difference is made in the final. Those who have technique and courage, in that stretch could gain those few seconds that could make the difference. It is a sort of 'technical flow', which in this case is not a contradiction: the route is streamlined but the high travel speeds require a certain mastery of the vehicle ”, added Martello.

A paradise for lovers of fat wheels: the Island of Elba in recent years is discovering itself as an increasingly popular destination, both by amateurs and by the Capoliveri Legend XCO who will be competing on Easter day, as well as by the national MTBs of reference. world. The Azzurri played a pre-season retreat at Elba, while the Swiss selection will carry out a block of work in Capoliveri, on the eve of the Internazionali d'Italia Series.

“We are delighted to see a project supported by the Municipality of Capoliveri and the Management Associated Tourism of the Island of Elba come to fruition,” said the head of the organizing committee of Capoliveri Legend XCO Maurizio Melis. - “It makes me proud that the great champions and the most famous national teams appreciate our offer which can now be said to be truly complete. We can't wait for the show to begin ”.

famac@famac.ind.br I am passionate about everything that has 2 wheels: in my youth I practiced competitive cycling on the road and on the track with good results. At the age of 18 I moved to cross country competing at national/international level as U23. Once I passed Elite, I made the choice to take things easier from the training point of view, and that's how my love for gravity disciplines was born, training as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made my passion my profession by managing 3 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way, everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube 'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
