The Marathon has always been, undeservedly, in the shadow of the Cross Country in terms of visibility. This year Discovery announced that it would give the marathon the same prominence as the cross country. But the gears still need to be oiled: in the World Cup there are no live streams but only the highlights after the race. Yesterday too, on the occasion of the world championship, no live coverage but only the possibility of seeing the times on the official UCI website. At the moment (10.30 on Monday 7 August), not yet the shadow of a video on the race.
MARATHON WORLD REPORTS
Leonardo Paez finished an unlucky race in 5th place. Here are his words.
An unfortunate World Cup. A crash took away my chance to get the result I wanted. Unfortunately in the crash I broke my rear derailleur and a shoe and I had to do more than half of the race with a broken shoe. I finish 5th, a very good result in the end, but I was feeling really good and I know I could have done more. I'm happy, I thank all the great people who have worked with me, starting with my coach Tony Longo who made me get here at the best of my shape. Thanks Roberto for preparing an incredible bike, thanks to Stefano Gonzi and Lee Cougan for making all my wishes come true, and thanks to kekko, Jose Gomez and all the sponsors. The only thing that saddens me a bit is the fact that the marathon is always penalized, no live streaming, little advertising… I hope this changes soon!
