In the aftermath of the Italian seasonal debut of the season of cross country, Internazionali d'Italia Series – the most important Italian circuit of the Olympic discipline of mountain biking – presented a 2018 edition in Milan featuring important innovations. The event was held on Monday 26 February 2018 at the CONI building, in the presence - among others - of the President of the Lombardy Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation Cordiano Dagnoni, of the Federal Councilor Paolo Fantoni and of the Technical Commissioner of the Italian Mountain Bike National Team Mirko Celestino.
The circuit managed by CM Outdoor Events, with the patronage of the Italian Cycling Federation and the International Cycling Union, can count on four events this year. It starts on Sunday 15 April from Nalles (BZ), with the traditional event of the Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race, this year back to the HC category, followed by two events making their debut in the circuit: on 22 April the show will land in San Marino for the Titano XCO, while the stage of the Aprutium Race in Pineto (TE) on 10 June represents the important return of the Internazionali d'Italia Series to Central Italy. The closing event is entrusted to another classic event, the Alpago MTB Trophy on Saturday 30 June in Lamosano di Chies d'Alpago (BL), where the Italian Youth Championships and the Cross Country Eliminator will be held on the same weekend.
Up for grabs are the crowns won in the Open categories in 2017 by Marco Aurelio Fontana (Bianchi Countervail) and the Italian champion Serena Calvetti (Damil GT Trevisan), and the new leader jerseys made by Northwave, presented on the occasion of the presentation of Milan. As in last season, the results of the Internazionali d'Italia Series will involve six categories: in addition to the men's and women's Open, the Under 23 and Juniores, men and women will also go hunting for leader jerseys. For Chiara Teocchi (Bianchi Countervail) there will be a new opportunity to defend her Under 23 crown, while the change of hands of the remaining jerseys is certain, given the jump in the category that affected Nadir Colledani (Bianchi Countervail), first in the category. Under 23 men in 2017, as much as former juniors Juri Zanotti (Torpado Gabogas) and Marika Tovo (Rudy Project).
On the organizational level, the declared objective of CM Outdoor Events is to confirm the excellent results obtained in 2017 by athletes, teams and sponsors, also proposing a high level of participation this season - in terms of quality and quantity - and operating a further qualitative leap in terms of relevance and visibility of the circuit. And it is precisely this aspect that concerns the most important novelty presented at the Milan vernissage.
For the first time in 2018, the Internazionali d'Italia Series events will be broadcast in live web streaming. All enthusiasts, in Italy and beyond, will be able to follow the full direct of the men's Open race on all devices, and extensive highlights of the Women's and Junior Men's and Women's Open races, for a level of visibility and usability never reached by Italian mountain bikes. outside the World Cup trials.
"Live web is a goal that we pursued and strongly wanted - explained Luca Carton of CM Outdoor Events - and to which we had approached over the years, up to the proposal of a wide range of highlights in web streaming last season. , in collaboration with PMG. This year we will finally be able to bring the great Mountain Bike into the homes of all enthusiasts, an opportunity that gives value to the hard work done in recent years and which testifies to the great ambitions of the circuit also in the future. "
The commitment and growth of the Internazionali d'Italia Series has also found significant feedback on the partnership front, with the important sponsorship agreements with companies at the top of the cycling industry: the confirmations of Northwave and Shimano, already present alongside the circuit in the 2017 season, was joined by the arrival of another important Italian brand, Vittoria.
Confirmations of participation from the most important Italian and international formations are coming in these weeks, which will ignite the enthusiasm of the fans on the route or connected live. All that remains is to wait for the show to begin.
