Less than twenty-four hours from the grand finale of the Internazionali d'Italia Series, the atmosphere in Chies d'Alpago (Belluno) is that of great eve. And it would be strange if it were the other way around because Alpago Bike Funtastic, tomorrow Saturday 30 June, will be the scene of the showdown between the great protagonists of the most important Cross Country circuit in Italy.
OPEN MEN: WAITING FOR FONTANA, TEMPIER AND AVANCINI. BERTOLINI-LOO CHALLENGE FOR THE GENERAL
Circuit leader Gioele Bertolini (Focus Selle Italia) and his main rival Martin Loo (Hawaii Express) to pick up the baton from Marco Aurelio Fontana (Bianchi-Countervail), winner in 2017. Andrea Tiberi (Focus Selle Italia), Luca Braidot (GS Carabinieri) and Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Torpado-Gabogas) ready to take advantage of every slightest mistake of the two "lookouts" to get back in the standings thanks to double scores. Henrique Avancini (Cannondale Factory Racing), Stephane Tempier (Bianchi-Countervail) and Fontana himself, exceptional “referees” motivated to leave their mark. There is no shortage of reasons for interest in the men's Open race of the last stage of the Internazionali d'Italia Series, which promises show and strong emotions starting at 15 pm, also on the web thanks to the live streaming on the Facebook page and on the Youtube channel of the circuit.
“Martin Loo is a strong opponent, but I'm fine and I want to win. The route is very demanding, as per the tradition of Chies d'Alpago. I hope to bring home the first goal of the part of the season ”. Despite his young age, Bertolini does not lack personality. From him also the technical ability and the skills of explosiveness that counterbalance the power of the Estonian expert, winner this year at Titano XCO. Alessandro Naspi (Platform Team) is instead the great favorite for the U23 title: behind him Alessandro Serravalle (Silmax Racing Team) and Juri Zanotti (Torpado-Gabogas) will try to undermine him.
OPEN WOMEN: TOVO VS CALVETTI, BUT THERE IS ALSO GIORGIA MARCHET. BELOMOINA ALSO RACING
A generational duel is expected in the Open Women category (departure at 12): the young bearers of Team Rudy Project, the winner of the Aprutium Race in Pineto and leader of the General Classification Marika Tovo, and the home athlete Giorgia Marchet, will try to get the better of the Italian Champion Serena Calvetti (KTM-Protek-Dama), first in San Marino. Great expectations also for the European Champion Yana Belomoina (Team CST Sandd American Eagle) who will try to redeem a complicated start to the season in the Belluno area. Also confirmed the presence of Evie Richards (Great Britain), U23 cyclocross World Champion and third in the general classification of the Mountain Bike World Cup among the U23.
JUNIORES: THREE CHALLENGE TO THE MEN. SPECIAL LAUNCHED AMONG WOMEN
Waiting for the duels in the Juniores category (starting at 9.30 am): Simone Avondetto (Silmax Racing Team) will try to defend the leadership from the attack of Zaccaria Toccoli (Team Focus Selle Italia), with Filippo Fontana (Gottardo Giochi Caneva) running at his time. Among women Giada Specia (Team Velociraptors), winner in San Marino and Pineto, has all the credentials to consolidate the first place in the category ranking where she commands in front of her teammate Gaia Pagotto.
At the end of the men's Open race, the award ceremony for the winners of the Internazionali d'Italia Series 2018 will be held in the central square of Lamosano di Chies d'Alpago, as part of the "Funtastic Spritz Bike", in live streaming starting at 18.
Today, Friday 29 June, the Alpago Bike Funtastic program started with the Italian Eliminator Championships. Closing Sunday 1st July in the sign of youth cycling with the Italian Championships reserved for the Beginners and Students categories.
