«The first edition of the UCI HERO World Cup Cross-country Marathon has been an undeniable success so far, and I'm delighted that its five popular stages will once again be on the 2026 calendar. Furthermore, next year we will expand the series with the inclusion of the HERO Costa Blanca on the calendar as the season-opening race,” emphasized UCI President David Lappartient. “We can expect another rich and exciting season of mountain bike racing, both at UCI World Cup level and for amateur riders. Allowing amateurs to participate in dedicated races within the same series is a great way to further promote the marathon.” cross-country on a mountain bike.»
The Organizing Committee is also extremely pleased with the imminent conclusion of the first HERO UCI MARATHON WORLD CUP, which saw the participation of elite athletes representing 46 countries. The race is also attracting growing interest from amateur cyclists, with over 3.000 participants already this year. Amateur cyclists compete on the same course as elite athletes, covering distances ranging from 60 to 160 kilometers depending on the category and route, in natural environments and on a variety of terrain.
"We're eagerly awaiting the final stage of the 2025 UCI Marathon World Cup, which will be held in Girona at the end of September, but in the meantime, we've been working tirelessly over the past few months to prepare for the circuit's second season, which must confirm the format," commented Gerhard Vanzi, head of organization for the HERO UCI MARATHON WORLD CUP. "And I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the local organizing committees and the UCI for their support and active collaboration this competitive year."
The spotlight now remains on the La Tramun Sea Otter Europe race scheduled in Girona on Sunday 21 September, which will decide the winners of the 2025 HERO UCI MARATHON WORLD CUP. The winners of the general classification of the men's and women's Masters races will be crowned on the same occasion.
