The hunt for the title of world freestyle king is about to begin. Do not miss the live broadcast on Saturday Red Bull TV.
Preparations have begun for the most prestigious freestyle tour in the world. Two Italians will compete among the 14 best riders on the planet: the young and talented Torquato Toto Testa and Diego Caverzasi. The first comes from Monza, the second is from Varese. They are the two most successful blues in dirt jump and represent our hopes for the Crankworx FMBA Slopestyle World Championship, which is about to shoot from the wild and wonderful Rotorua, New Zealand.
The first stage of the circuit reserved for two-wheel tightrope walkers will be staged next Saturday 24 March and will be broadcast live on Red Bull TV. The appointments in Innsbruck, Austria (June 16) will follow; Les Gets, France (June 24) and Red Bull Joyride in Whistler, Canada (August 19).
This weekend the rider who proves to be the best will be crowned winner of the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle in memory of McGazza (Kelly McGarry, a well-known New Zealand feerider who died in 2016 from a heart attack during a training), will gain the first points of advantage for the conquest of the title of world champion and will be the favorite in the hunt for the three victories needed to win the triple crown in slopestyle, the title of which is equivalent to a prize of 25.000 dollars. No one has ever managed to take it home yet.
Unfortunately, the 2017 revelation will not be in New Zealand. Emil Johansson, the Swede who won the general classification last season is stopped in the pits due to an injury. To raise the bar at Skyline Rotorua Gravity Park with the new tricks designed during the winter will be Nicholi Rogatkin, winner of two stages in the past edition, and our Torquato Testa, second one year ago on this route and fresh winner of White Style, the only FMB slopestyle event on the snow. Together with his friend Diego Caverzasi, Toto will have to contend with the Belgian Thomas Genon, the French Tomas Lemoine, the Swede Max Fredriksson, the Canadians Anthony Messere and Brett Rheeder, among others.
The show on the unprecedented route designed at Skyline Rotorua Gravity Park will be something never seen before. Fast, fun and full of surprises, amidst stunning lake views, towering redwoods, dense fern forests and even steaming volcanic geysers, it will offer Red Bull TV viewers a show like no other. Don't miss the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle live on www.redbull.tv on Saturday 24 March from 3.30 am and of course in reruns.
