In Treviso, on the Montello, the Enduro race called 'Enduro della Polveriera' took place on Saturday 28th, an event that is part of the Triveneto MTB circuit and included in the week of the Red Lands, 7 busy days with the international cross country last Sunday (last round of the Internazionali d'Italia) and the conclusion with the Granfondo delle Terre Rosse this Sunday. The route measured 19,4km for a total height difference of 800m, a short but very intense test with short transfers but with a 10/15% gradient. There were no less than 5 stages, very flowy with terrain that allowed for maximum grip even if the rains of recent days made some stretches treacherous and you don't mess around with the Terre Rosse del Montello if they are wet.
PS1 - Canalone - length 1,49 km., Height difference 129 m.
PS2 - Gongolo - length 1,44 km., Altitude difference 174 meters.
PS3 - Polveriera - length 0,96 km., - altitude difference 130 meters.
PS4 - San Martino - length 1,90 km., - elevation gain 107 meters.
PS5 - Mundial - length 1,13 km., - altitude difference 155 m.
365 was present this time in the middle of the race with the opportunity to also test the new Italian double valve system which differs from Schwalbe for the fact that it was invented 4 years earlier and patented the single outlet hole. Only then maybe the times were not ripe or simply no big brand wanted to believe in it, which the Germans of Schwalbe are doing instead.
The Polveriera enduro presented itself as an extreme XC (definition given by the organizer Massimo Panighel) with the last 2 stages on the international XC trails on Sunday 22nd, including climbs, and the PS3 with an uphill start. But just know it and you will have fun anyway, it is useless to always throw it on the "eh but there is too much to pedal, too many climbs" and then get beaten even in the downhill sections, there will certainly be more technical races but today the ingredients were these then let's get into the right perspective, shock absorber in trail position and go!
We start with the awareness of having great reliability, the double valve system instills a certainty that is usually not available. How many times do you face competitions with inner tubes thinking that at the first mistake or badly taken stone it could all end (it is logical that breakages or punctures can always happen even with this system). The first 3 PS are very good, clean driving, tears made as far as possible and the truly enduro stretches made 100% to try to file seconds but rumors give the locals Nicolò Ferrazzo and Marco De Col (Rudy Project Pedali di Marco with 2 front 29 ″) leading the race with Damiano Rossa (Team Martes) to worry them and us in a few seconds.
The complete impressions on the double valve system can be found in the next issue of 365mountainbike (August) as July is on newsstands from next week (from Monday 30).
We head towards the 2 XC tests where we have to look for recovery but it is difficult on PS so pedaling and filing seconds to two frenzied cross countrists. It seems strange but Damiano Rossa makes it by winning the surprise PS and presenting himself in first place on the last special, tied with Marco De Col (with problems due to a bead breaking perhaps after the fall. Alas, the double system is not present here valve). Nicolò Ferrazzo is third at 2 seconds, a very hard-fought race! For us it is the defeat since due to a fall we remove ourselves from the fight for the victory, ironically the same stretch had been covered in the International XC last Sunday (always passed without problems) but perhaps this gave me too much confidence in the middle from Enduro and after taking it to thunder I also fell to thunder at the end of it! The fall was violent for the cover as during the fall the handlebar turned on a stone and all the weight went to the tire ... I would not say but with a tubeless tire it would have been bead breaking unless we had no pressure well above 2 bar. This is the reliability I mentioned at the beginning of the article even if it would be better not to fall!
The PS5 is decisive and decrees the victory to Marco De Col with a total time of 15'57 ”ahead of team mate Nicolò Ferrazzo by a second and Damiano Rossa to the third with 2 seconds ... the first 3 places in just 3 seconds! We console ourselves with the victory in this stage finishing in 4th place in the general.
«A very smooth and technical course - declared the winner Marco De Col at the end of the race - with descents that were not very long but still sufficient for Enduro, and mixed sections of dry and wet terrain where you had to be very careful. I fell myself, but it was my mistake and in any case I recovered immediately. Lifts and climbs, especially in the transfers from one stage to the next, made the race even more challenging. "
This is echoed by team mate and runner-up Nicolò Ferrazzo, who defined the 2014 Enduro della Polveriera as «a race in which you have to pedal, here more than on other tracks: the route seems easy but it is not at all. I had some difficulties in the more technical parts, since my mtb is stiff and not very suitable ... fortunately in the last two tests I recovered and went better. "
Very satisfied with his race appeared Damiano Rossa, third in the general classification and winner of the Master 1-2 category. «There was really a lot to pedal, a difficult race with many relaunches… in the end I didn't have any more, too bad I would have liked to have still some energy to spend! Anyway I held up to the others until the end, despite a rather slippery ground, even if apparently it didn't seem like it. " Rossa did not fail to applaud the organization, «Excellent, with a well-marked route. The impression is more than positive, I would be happy to run there again. "
In the women's category victory for Prisca Castlunger (Rideaway ASD) who won with a time of 20'16 ”preceding Federica Piccoli (Fuorisella MTB), second on the finish line. On the top step of the podium of the Juniores category was Nicola Zortea (ASD Cycling Team), with a time of 17'41 ”ahead of Imer Corazza (Cycle Lab team) and Stefano Udeschini (Rideaway ASD). Among the students victory for Giacomo Lodolo (ASD Pedale Ronchese) who completed the three tests scheduled for this category in 11'23 "ahead of Massimo Copelli (Rideaway ASD).
Massimo Panighel, the Head of the Organizing Committee “Pedali di Marca”, is very satisfied, proud of the demonstration of versatility given by the Montello area, capable of hosting a large number of two-wheeled sporting events. Panighel did not fail to underline the great effort of the many professionals who "give their soul for and do their utmost to promote our territory and always offer a sporting and not just excellent proposal".
Closing with a dedication to his brother who died on stage, when speaking on the sidelines of the award ceremony he said: "Without knowing it, my brother's favorite song is being sent to the console, to which the permanent path" Breathe Life "and all the efforts that we are doing. Perhaps, from up there, he is looking at us and he too gives us a hand ”.
PS: To dispel any doubts we conclude by saying that the course was certainly not the most technical but Marco and Nicolò are two great handles so they deserved it, many of us if he started with the front did more damage than anything else.
