FINAL SUCCESS FOR FLORIAN VOGEL AND NORTHWAVE AT CYPRUS SUNSHINE CUP
The Swiss biker consolidated his leadership in the general classification by winning the last stage
The Mountain Bike season has started in the best possible way for Northwave athletes. After the two stage victories achieved by the European Cross Country Champion Tanja Zakelj at the Andalusia Bike Race, on Sunday 1st March the Swiss Florian Vogel (Focus XC MTB Team) achieved the overall success at the Cyprus Sunshine Cup, one of the most important stage races reserved for fat wheels.
In the overall standings, Vogel was 37 seconds ahead of another Northwave-sponsored biker, the Brazilian Henrique Avancini (Cannondale-Factory), while the French Stephane Tempier (BH-SR Suntour) completed the final podium, 1'20 "from the summit. The Swiss biker imposed himself in the initial prologue and in the fourth and last stage where he preceded Avancini and Tempier.
The Swiss Kathrin Stirnemann (Haibike Oetztal) finished in third position the last stage of the women's test behind Annika Langvald (Specialized Racing) and Margot Moschetti (Betch NL Superior), and in front of another Northwave athlete, the veteran Gunn -Rita Dahle (Team Norway).
In the overall standings, the Eliminator World Champion finished fourth behind Langvald, Moschetti and Jolanda Neff (Stockli Pro Team).
