Honda Motor has not yet invested in the electric and e-bike world, and at the Japan Mobility Show there was interest in seeing a new e-bike prototype studied by the Japanese brand. But Honda's entry into the e-bike market wasn't particularly surprising.
Honda Motor took the opportunity of the Japan Mobility Show, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, to shed light on the future of the mobility market. Market expectations were high when Honda Motor Co., Ltd. director, president and representative Toshihiro Mibe took the stage to speak at the event. “We offer visitors the opportunity to experience the future mobility that Honda dreams of and also to participate in creating future mobility with us“said Toshihiro Mibe.
In the press release, Honda explains its e-MTB Concept which expands the field of mobility in nature (urban environments are not mentioned, ed.). For many enthusiasts, Honda has remained impressed with the RN01 G-Cross, a true and authentic jewel of the early 2000s: a DH with modern solutions even today (see the story).
"With e-bikes you can easily climb mountains thanks to electric assistance and this bike should offer a riding experience that combines the motorbike and mountain bike experience. It was developed to allow anyone to enjoy cycling on mountain trails".
Honestly, a somewhat sparse press release with banal concepts.
Honda's new e-bike prototype uses existing components from companies like Brose, Fox suspension, SRAM Eagle AXS drivetrain, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, RockShox Reverb dropper post, DT Swiss XM 1700 wheels and Maxxis Minion DHF tires.
It is not known whether this prototype will ever be put on the market but Honda certainly has no targeted investments in the world of electric bikes at the moment.
