Aaron is scheduled to undergo surgery next week. The incident was captured on video by VitalMTB (video below).
Well this is definitely not the post I wanted to make after yesterday's rehearsals. I had a big crash and unfortunately broke my arm/elbow in places. Operation next week to fix everything. Disappointed would be an understatement, but that's the way our sport is sometimes. It was a freak accident, it didn't feel like I made a big mistake, but the margin for error in this section was so small. Normally I'd have a good chance of salvaging something like this.
Sometimes things all go the wrong way. Haha So much training and preparation has been needed this season. I really believed that I was in a solid position to fight for victories and a title again. I felt better physically than I've ever felt and the new bike has been great. I always say that success is never due just because you work hard, it greatly improves your chances. It's time to think about recovery.
Thanks everyone for the messages. This year's racing will be so beautiful to watch. Excited to support my @intensefactoryracing team from the sidelines, the guys are committed and I'm excited to see them race – Aaron Gwin
