Fabien Barel crashed badly during the PS1 of the Chilean Enduro World Series and broke his eighth vertebra. Despite this he managed to finish Day 1 with a PS2 and a PS3 finished just seconds behind Jerome Clementz! But what makes you think the most is the risk he ran and that he himself revealed on the facebook page calling himself a lucky man.
Fabien has passed 5 hours in hospital in Chile, head / neck and back CT scan and the diagnosis is the rupture of the eighth vertebra just 1.2mm from the spinal cord, the nerves that regulate the movement of the legs: "The next morning the pain was very intense along the vertebrae and at the hospital, after a careful analysis, I see the doctor coming towards me quite frightened, telling me not to move. Now I am evaluating all the previous day and I realize how much risk I took, such as continuing the race by also pushing on the pedals. Now that I'm stabilized in bed I realize how lucky I am ”.
On May 9, 2010 Fabien Barel broke his femur and suffered a head injury during a training session at the Sospel bike park in France. After this injury, which made him miss the whole DH season, he had decided to leave the world Downhill after 3 world titles on the bulletin board at only 30 years old. After working with Mondraker and having developed various solutions such as the famous' Forward Geometry ”he was back to compete at high levels in Enduro but now another tile arrives… we hope he will recover soon, both physically and mentally, congratulations Fabien!
