Superenduro: a year to reflect

MTB excursion during an event with spectators and stands dedicated to cycling.

Let's face it, for many of us Superenduro's announcement not to organize any events for 2021 was definitely bad news. For years many riders have set their season with the times marked by the stages of the most famous circuit 'Italy. It is an appointment that often goes beyond the simple competitive performance, to become a way of meeting old and new friends, united by the unhealthy desire to have fun while struggling and sometimes tumbling to the ground.

I wanted to hear Enrico directly, to discuss the reasons for the direction he has taken and the arguments he described in support of this painful choice are more than acceptable.

Superenduro is in fact halfway between the major international events and the more local ones. It is much more complex to organize than a regional competition, but at the same time it cannot set in motion the same energies as a world event.

A PAUSE FOR REFLECTION

But this stop can be an important moment of reflection for the competitive movement. When it all started, this circuit was the heart of international enduro. It had been a revolution, not only because enduro races were a new format, an innovation that actually brought MTB back to its origins; But the real upheaval was from the media point of view. Who, like myself, had participated in the xc and DH circuits had never seen anything like it. A turning point.

For many years it has been the reference point of the national environment, a good thing at the beginning but perhaps a limitation in recent years.

THE LEAP IN QUALITY

I talked about the limit because the national circuit may not have noticed in time that Superenduro was changing, that with the advent of the ews it was the enduro that was changing. My favorite circuit remained fascinating and engaging, but those who wanted to emerge and wanted to build a profession around this world, as the Lupato brother's did, should have looked a little further. The focus of companies and media was no longer here, but in the big brother of our Superenduro, that news that has gained global visibility.

In this sense, this stop could be healthy, leading the most talented and motivated riders to set their season on the races that really matter. In this way, perhaps even our movement could mend the gap that has been created over the years and that only in part some riders with crystalline talent like Raimondi have managed to fill.

But Superneduro for many is also an image and therefore aware of this condition, they are already building a project that will try to support our kids from the point of view of the image during the Italian events of the enduro word series. Project that we at 365 deeply share and to which we are evaluating how to contribute.

But also in this sense the world has radically changed in recent years, when Superenduro was born the magazines were still printed and ours, with Marzio Bardi, was one of the founders of the circuit. now the networks are almost only online and we are experiencing a second digital revolution, where the video component acquires greater importance also in our sector.

This is to say what? The route has already been traced, it is certainly challenging, it is necessary to reprogram many of the schemes with which they have turned the pedals up to now, but there is a year to reinvent this element as well.

So in the end this break, certainly painful especially from the point of view of bonds of friendship and sharing of unique moments, will also bring with it elements of renewal, which if well exploited will allow our little colorful circus to grow, mature and stand out. flight.

But let it be just a short break… do you understand Enrico? Don't play jokes !!
