The Enduro World Series (EWS) today announces a revisitation of the 2021 events calendar, which will see two distinct blocks of races based in Europe.
Due to the continuing evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic the EWS has decided to postpone both the Whistler round and the Trophy of Nations until 2022.
A fixture on the August program, Whistler is always a favorite with EWS fans and athletes. However, the strong limitations in travel that are added to the other restrictions have constrained the choice to consolidate the EWS racing season only in Europe. Crankworx, the Canadian event organizer, agreed that this is the best decision. This will allow riders and teams to base themselves in one area throughout the summer, helping to manage budgets and also lessening the effects of any travel restrictions or quarantine periods.
With the possibility that not all nations will be able to participate, in addition to the desire to avoid team races, the decision has also been made to pause the Trophy of Nations for 2021. Although it could be one of the weekends exciting on the calendar, it was decided to focus on the EWS and EWS-E season, making it as solid and consistent as possible. The Trophy of Nations event will return in 2022 when riders can once again represent their home nations and compete as quietly as teams.
In its place, on 18-19 September, there will be a race that will showcase the iconic courses of the Finale Outdoor Region as you've never seen them before. The Bluegrass Finale EWS-E presented by Vittoria will represent one of the biggest EWS-E races ever run to date, with two days on the bike and a super elevation gain. The following week, on 25-26 September, the series will move only a few kilometers along the coast to give life to the Vittoria EWS Pietra Ligure. The season will then end in style in Scotland the following weekend with the Vittoria EWS and the EWS-E Tweed Valley.
An EWS spokesperson said: “We will miss both Whistler and the Trophy of Nations very much this year, but we expect both of them to return next year when we can enjoy them to their fullest potential. We are confident in the 2021 calendar and with nine EWS rounds and four EWS-E races it will be our biggest season to date ”.
