Porsche eBike Performance is currently looking for locations for its e-bike motor factory in Europe. Furthermore, contrary to previous announcements, the high-tech Greyp Bikes brand will be discontinued and the technology absorbed into Porsche's other businesses.

In February 2023 Porsche announced that Greyp Bikes (of which the company became the majority shareholder in November 2021) would be known as Porsche eBike Performance following theacquisition of drive system manufacturer Fazua. The move, Porsche said, was to “adapt its corporate structure to refine its profile, define synergies and successfully implement its own projects.”
Greyp outage
Now the German automotive giant has big plans for the future that don't include the Greyp brand at all. “The shareholders of Porsche eBike Performance have decided to focus on the core business and therefore on the development and production of drive systems for e-bikes. Therefore, the Greyp E-Bikes business segment will be gradually closed until 31 December 2023,” the company told Bike Europe in a statement.
“In recent weeks and months, several options have been carefully weighed against each other. These also included discussions with possible investors for the continuation of the e-bike business,” confirms the company. Porsche eBike Performance also said that affected employees have been personally notified and that they will work to find socially acceptable solutions for them. As for job losses, no numbers were provided. The company also said that customer service for current Greyp electric bike owners will continue.
Fastest on the market
“The e-bike business is very profitable,” Jan Becker told German platform Capital.de at the time of the name change to Porsche eBike Performance. “We initially didn't have the ability to develop a product like this so quickly ourselves. Now the experts from Porsche and Fazua and Greyp can share their know-how." Although Porsche continued to collaborate with long-time partner Rotwild on the launch of e-bike models, these acquisitions facilitated faster development of Porsche e-bikes on the market.
Porsche electric bike motor factory in Croatia?
With a renewed focus on e-bike drive systems it is safe to say that the new factory in Europe will be dedicated to the production of e-bike motors. Porsche eBike Performance told Bike Europe that they are “currently looking at several locations and research is ongoing.” However, local Croatian media say the new plant will be built there.
“The proposed plant will be the German automotive giant's first plant in Croatia and its first greenfield investment in local industrial production,” writes the Dubrovnik Times based on information from Jutarnji. Porsche eBike Performance declined to provide further information at this point.
