DT Swiss says its new FR 541 rim has higher impact resistance, better pinch protection, but with a lower weight.
The FR 541 has a welded alloy construction that features an internal rim width of 30mm, just like the FR 560 it replaces. However, DT Swiss has developed a new profile that is said to improve impact resistance and pinch protection while saving weight.
The new rim took inspiration from the existing EX Enduro range and added additional material to strengthen the rim. However, it's not just a reinforced enduro rim, the rim hooks have been reshaped and now have a slight bulge. DT Swiss says that widening this surface allows for the distribution of impact forces over a larger area which reduces tire damage.
Strength is always a factor when building the best mountain bike wheels for the downhill and freeride, but so is the weight. DT Swiss claims they have managed to reduce the rim weight by 65g, with the new rim weighing in at 570g.
The rims will be available in either 27,5-inch or 29-inch options and will be available with 28 or 32 holes. A single wheel will sell for around € 100 and should become available in the coming months.
