Since it came to light the entire disqualification process of Mathias Fluckiger, just the day before the European Championship, it looked strange and with some gaps. And that's how she ended up. Fluckiger was declared innocent for the reasons that he himself had declared shortly after the positivity: the quantities of Zeranol found in the control were not sufficient to be considered positive (The limit of Zeranol to determine a positive is 5 ng/mL and it was found only 0,3 ng/mL). Now the Swiss disciplinary commission has settled with him and his suspension has been cancelled. He can compete right away.
Mathias Fluckiger and his defense filed an appeal last September in relation to the suspension that Swiss Sports Integrity had ordered for the Swiss biker on August 18th. From the outset, Fluckiger has pleaded innocent and has always followed the same line of communication in this regard.
He provided hair samples for independent analysis which were analyzed by Professor Pascal Kintz of the University of Strasbourg, a world expert in this field. The results were negative, showing that it was not possible that he had been taking Zeranol for a long time before. What's more, in tests performed on Fluckiger before and after the date of the test they deemed abnormal, the results were normal. Neither a check he underwent on May 20 nor another on June 10 found traces of the substance in any quantity.
The last four months have been the hardest months of my life. As of these days my provisional ban, which should never have been pronounced, has finally been lifted.
It is an intermediate success towards justice and truth. But unfortunately the case is not closed yet. The constant uncertainty, the months of waiting, the unfounded accusations must finally end.
I thank all those who have supported me in this extremely difficult moment and all those who have not pre-judged me! –Mathias Fluckiger
