“We came to Coggiola because the abstinence from enduro races was too strong. It doesn't matter if we started from Freiburg ”. The phrase of a German rider summarizes all the emotions just experienced in the first, intense, Superenduro Powered By SRAM weekend.
The circuit has restarted from Coggiola, from the Lupi's den, from the place that in a few years has entered the heart of bikers from all over Europe, who have always found a truly warm welcome here. The first Experience stage was the dress rehearsal for the PRO circuit, which will start from Sestri Levante on April 5-6. Present all the top Italian riders, who did not miss the opportunity to fine-tune the new materials in the race and to compete, for the first time after the winter, with two French big names of the caliber of Remy Absalon and Cedric Ravanel. Only Manuel Ducci missed the appeal, stopped by the residues of the flu and for today in the role of exceptional spectator.
The race saw the usual domination of Alex Lupato (Lapierre - FRM), who found in his brother (and teammate) Denny a tough and determined opponent, ready to face the first full-time season in enduro at the top. The Wolves allowed themselves the luxury of leaving Remy Absalon on the third step of the podium, making his debut with the colors of Team Scott SR Suntour. More detached Davide Sottocornola (SantaCruz - Cicobikes DSB), who did better than Cedric Ravanel (GT Pulse Session), in the end fifth. Sixth place for Nicola Casadei (Lapierre - Gravity Games), ahead of Andrea Gamenara (Ancillotti Doganaccia), Matteo Raimondi (SantaCruz - Cicobikes DSB), Vittorio Gambirasio (Trek - Officine Red Bike) and Jacopo Orbassano (SantaCruz - Cicobikes DSB).
Race without history between the girls, with Cecile Ravanel (Gt Pulse Session) who dominated, leaving Chiara Pastore (SantaCruz - Cicobikes DSB), making her debut with the 29 ", more than a minute away. Third place for Anita Gherig (Specialized Tvince Racing), who preceded by two seconds Laura Rossin (Devinci - Dream Team), star of yesterday evening with four titles won in 2013. In fourth place the other sister Gherig, Carolin, who preceded Valentina Macheda (Ibis - Life Cycle). Very difficult race for the girls, who had to deal with the slippery course.
A whole day and a whole night of rain left their mark on the Coggiola trails, full of pitfalls and covered by a patina of mud that made tire choice the main topic of the day. Fortunately, the rain spared the superendurists, who had to deal with a difficult terrain to say the least. Most of the riders opted for a mud tire at the start and then fitted a lighter tire at the time control after the first two stages.
The rain therefore did not arrive, with the ProLoco guys who saw the work of the previous months rewarded, which allowed them to set up the usual huge event. Coggiola was the center of the enduro world for two days, with the 2013 award ceremony on Saturday evening and the seasonal debut on Sunday. But now the thoughts of the riders are already at the first PRO of Sestri Levante, just two weeks away.
