Summer is upon us and the Dolomites are changing: from Dolomiti Superski to Dolomiti Supersummer. Ok, maybe the recent weather doesn't help in this schematic passage but the snow, inevitably, will give way to a different type of tourism which also includes cycling and, in particular, Mountain Bikes. Whether traditional or electric.
ATTENTION: Given the recent weather conditions, we recommend that you find out about the weather conditions at high altitudes and the seasonal openings of the lifts. All the info, including the openings of each single facility, can be found on the official website Dolomites Supersummer.
FASSA BIKE GUIDES
Together with Stefano Davarda, Fassa Bike Guides, and the old acquaintance Lull's wings, a photographer with years of experience behind us, we staged a spectacular Enduro Tour last September thanks to the skilful use of the lifts. Having pushed enduro bikes with us (both Cannondale Jekyll), the formula of going up with the chairlift and going down by bike was the perfect format to enjoy a nice day of sport in the fairytale scenery of the Dolomites.
SUPERSUMMER DOLOMITES
This format, i.e. pedaling with the help of the lifts to gain altitude, is having a lot of positive feedback all over the world and Dolomiti Superski has managed to concentrate, in the Dolomiti Supersummer summer product, as many as 12 districts and over 120 lifts, 22 of which in Val di Fassa alone: of course it's impossible to use them all in one day but on our tour we completed a 76km loop with a difference in altitude of 5.342m, using 12 lifts.
The Supersummer Pass is valid from 13/05/2023 al 05/11/2023.
11 PLANTS (+1 BONUS)
In our tour we bypassed various valleys starting from Val di Fassa and arriving in Val Badia. A spectacular tour thanks to the use of 11 lifts or better to say 12, if we also include the "tourist tour" - without bikes - to the splendid Terrace of the Dolomites on Sass Pordoi. The Terrace of the Dolomites offers a unique scenario in the world, we can say it, which allowed us to admire the majesty of the Dolomites and understand why it is a UNESCO heritage site.
START THE TOUR
Departure from Campitello di Fassa (1400m) where we immediately climbed onto the 1st lift of the day direction With Rodella (2400m): starting the tour at high altitude has a completely different flavor! Especially after enjoying a good coffee, even if there were already those who were enjoying a white. The passage on the Città dei Sassi, which extends under the Sassolungo, is characterized by stones of various sizes that can be climbed or surmounted. Or simply pass by by bike and enjoy the view!
The first descent of the day does not present anything extremely technical but a succession of fun flow paths that descend to Selva di Val Gardena (altitude 1563m) crossing Plan de Gralba (1800m).
A Selva di Val Gardena there is a relaxing environment with lots of greenery and an enviable position under the Sella massif: a location already well known in the tourist field. From here we take the second chairlift which will take us to an altitude of 2300m asl (Dantercepies).
At the arrival of the chairlift Dantercepies, with the Gardena Pass in plain sight, it is possible to enjoy the positive sensations that the 2300m altitude gives. This stretch is home to the HERO Südtirol Dolomites, as well as all those tours related to the Sellaronda. From here we go down the direction Corvara (1568m) having fun on paths that are never too technical but with the right flow: ideal trails to ride safely even for not too expert users.
In Zone Corvara (1568m) there is the possibility, through the intelligent use of 3 systems, to make a sort of circuit with various "pistini" that end at San Cassiano (1537m). Before arriving at San Cassiano we got to pass by Col Alt (2000m) and Piz Sorega (2003m): we visited this last location both on the way out and on the way back, before heading Campolongo (1875m), an ideal place for a noteworthy lunch.
In the meantime, 4 lifts have gone, which allowed us to enjoy other beautiful downhill trails, as well as opening our stomachs for the upcoming lunch.
Da Campolongo (1875m) immediately chairlift which allowed us to gain a few important minutes of digestion. The arrival at Bec de Roces refuge, at an altitude of 2120m, gave way to yet another downhill trail that led us to Arabba (1600m), chairlift that begins to approach Val di Fassa and its Bike Park, a top area for gravity lovers.
Indeed here the plant of Arabba (1600m) took us up to Bishop-bearer (2478m), where we descended to Pont de Vauz (1851m), where the Fodom cable car departs which leads to Pordoi Pass (2230m). Here we find the long-awaited (at least for us) area of the Val di Fassa Bike Park: after so many all-mountain-style descents, fun but which didn't require a bike that was too pushy, here we immediately change our attitude with the final descent Double-U ed Electric Line: almost 1000m of altitude difference of pure adrenaline until the arrival at Canazei (1450m).
For the expert user, this ride must be taken from an all-mountain point of view rather than an "enduro racing" version, both for the context and for the type of trails. Besides, in the Val di Fassa there will be a way to recover as regards the technical trails, thanks to the Bike Park, this year's venue for the UCI EDR, formerly the EWS (Enduro World Series).
Knowing our gravity inclination, the next day there was the opportunity to use the morning to see the more technical trails in the Val di Fassa area (Bike Park Area). Three names out of all: Titans, Animal House e Tutti-frutti! We remind you that Val di Fassa will host the competitions of Enduro World Series: appointment next 24/25 June.
A very beautiful trail area which, needless to hide it, can boast of one of the most beautiful panoramas in the world, namely the Dolomites. Shooting with a background like this "can only accompany you", as they said in a viral video from a few years ago.
