DJI, the world leader in civilian drone manufacturing and creative photography technology, today introduces the DJI Air 3, a powerful new addition to the dual main camera Air series.
This ultra-advanced all-round drone delivers stunning image detail and stunning footage effortlessly, thanks to the dual cameras that shoot 48MP photos and record 4K/60fps HDR video. A 46-minute runtime[1], omnidirectional obstacle detection, O4 HD video transmission system and many other flagship features will allow users to further master aerial photography.
“DJI Air 3 is the first Air-series drone to offer pro-level features such as dual main cameras and omnidirectional obstacle sensing, while maintaining a weight of just 720g for greater freedom and flexibility,” said Ferdinand. Wolf, Creative Director of DJI. “This drone is the perfect all-around platform for your outdoor adventures and offers an exponentially more diverse camera language.”
Highlight your subject in the frame with dual main cameras
DJI Air 3 boasts the first dual main camera system in the Air series, incorporating a 1/1.3-inch CMOS wide-angle camera and a 3/1-inch CMOS 1.3x medium-telephoto camera in an extremely compact space. The two cameras have the same sensor size but different focal lengths, resulting in more uniform image quality and more diverse camera language.
Thanks to the wide-angle camera, natural landscapes can be captured at their fullest extent. It offers a pixel size of 2,4 μm, an aspect ratio equivalent to 24 mm and an aperture of f/1.7. The 3x medium telephoto lens offers a pixel size of 2,4 μm, an aspect ratio equivalent to 70 mm and an aperture of f/2.8.
The 3x medium telephoto lens can zoom up to 3x optical and creates a strong sense of spatial compression, unlocking a unique perspective to present you or anyone else as a resolute subject in the frame. With more subjects in the scenes, aerial photography will have even more diverse possibilities.
Pilots will be able to use the wide FOV of the wide-angle camera to capture the entire landscape or switch to the 3x medium telephoto lens and capture one subject as a cinematic focal point, with the landscape in front and the subject behind seemingly within reach. Both cameras shoot 48MP photos to not only deliver hyper-realistic detail, but also support in-post cropping for easy secondary composition.
DJI Air 3 features dual 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensors that support dual native ISO for direct output of 4K/60fps HDR video at high frame rates and video specs up to 4K/100fps max., now also without FOV cropping compared to its predecessor, DJI Air 2S4. These videos can record rich color details and natural light transitions to capture breathtaking landscapes with pinpoint accuracy. Both cameras support D-Log M 10-bit and HLG 10-bit color modes. 10-bit D-Log M mode can retain more highlight and shadow detail for even more flexible post-production.
DJI Air 3 is the first Air series drone that supports 2.7K (9:16) vertical video footage, which can be shared more quickly and conveniently on social platforms.
Extended flight range, practical power storage
Compared to its predecessor in the Air series, DJI Air 3 offers 48% more battery life,5 up to 46 minutes. This allows pilots to reach optimal positions and adjust composition with greater confidence during a single flight.
The new battery charging station supports an energy storage function. Users will be able to press and hold the function button to transfer the remaining power from multiple batteries to the battery with the most remaining power6. This feature allows pilots to get the most out of every flight in scenarios such as hiking in the mountains or hiking in the woods where charging options are limited.
Take off and land safely thanks to omnidirectional obstacle sensing and O4 video transmission.
DJI Air 3 is the first drone in the Air series to include omnidirectional obstacle sensing. This feature enables full awareness and allows the drone to detect obstacles in all directions. The front and back of the drone features a pair of fisheye lenses that enable forward, backward, left, right, and upward tracking, while the bottom features binocular lenses and a 3D ToF , which provide powerful omnidirectional obstacle detection.
When an obstacle is detected, DJI Air 3 can also use APAS 5.0 to actively avoid and bypass it smoothly, which ensures uninterrupted shooting and a significantly improved flight experience7. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, every user will be able to fly with confidence and unlock more creative ideas. The ActiveTrack function frees pilots' hands and works together with the Advanced RTH function8, to achieve fully automatic flight and a worry-free return to take-off point.
The next generation O4 video transmission system gives DJI Air 3 an outstanding performance. It not only offers a transmission distance of up to 20 km9, but further improves the transmission stability to avoid fragmented live views and ensure safer flights. It supports live feeds up to 1080p/60fps. A higher frame rate ensures a smoother viewing experience. For the frequency band in Europe, the 5.1Ghz band has been added to improve the transmission performance, so that users can fly with more confidence and security.
Smart features, endless inspiration
Focus Track for both cameras: Composed of Spotlight 2.0, ActiveTrack 5.0 and Point of Interest 3.0., FocusTrack keeps every subject in the center of the frame. When using 3x telephoto, a unique sense of spatial compression will be generated to highlight the subject in a more cinematic way.
Quick shots: Allows DJI Air 3 to perform creative camera movements such as Rise, Dronie, Circle, Spiral, Boomerang and Asteroid.10
Vertical shots in 2.7KDJI Air 3 supports 2.7K vertical video shooting with dual cameras. The wide-angle camera can include rich image information, while the 3x medium-telephoto can portray the pilot or other people as the subject, resulting in even more captivating vertical aerial photography. The 2.7K vertical shooting videos can be shared immediately on social networks without having to do any cropping.
Mastershots:Allows DJI Air 3 to automatically perform various camera movements, capture various clips, edit and add audio tracks to generate cinematic-level footage.
Night mode: Thanks to noise reduction algorithms, DJI Air 3 is able to capture clear 4K/30fps footage in low-light environments.
Hyperlapse: Choose from 4 sub-modes: Free, Circle, Course Lock and Waypoint to shoot timelapse movies in 4K horizontally or 2.7K vertically.
Slow Motion: Select 4K/100fps or 1080p/100fps to get 4x slow motion video.
SmartPhoto 3.0: In single shot mode, DJI Air 3 uses SmartPhoto 3.0 by default, which can automatically select between HDR, hyperlight and scene recognition according to the scenario to achieve better results. In HDR DNG11 format, the camera can record a wider dynamic range with built-in contrast enhancement. The image file can achieve JPG level quality with post-editing software, reducing the difficulties during post-production.
QuickTransfer: Quickly download photos and videos from the aircraft to your smartphone over a wireless connection, saving you time and effort.
LightCut: Connect DJI Air 3 wirelessly to the LightCut app on your smartphone to enable intelligent recognition of your highlights and one-touch editing. You don't need to download the movie during the process. This saves storage space on your phone.
One-touch editing: Intelligently identify composition and flight paths, select clips based on composition and camera movements, automatically match the optimal model and sound effects, and then generate a cinematic video, all effortlessly .
Tilt-Shift Effects: Experience incredible effects that make a shot look like a miniature or toy with a single tap. Apply this feature to movies shot with the 3x medium telephoto lens for even better results.
Waypoint flight: This feature is available for the first time on the Air series. Users can plan flight routes and shooting actions for DJI Air 3 in advance to achieve complex camera movements. Pilots can also save a flight route to precisely repeat the same mission at a later time or date, making it easy to create long-form timelapse videos that include transitions such as between day and night or from one season to another .
