To the already announced Nino Schurter and Andri Frischknecht, returning from the Cape Epic finished in third position, the Swiss women's national team joins the Swiss contingent at the start of the second stage of the Internazionali d'Italia Series.
Saturday 8 April, 13 athletes including Elite, U23 and Juniores will take part in the UCI HC event in Capoliveri, which will be preceded by a training camp that the Swiss athletes will have to face, under the orders of CT Edmund Telser, starting from Saturday 1 April in the Costa dei Gabbiani area. The retreat of the Swiss women's national team in Elba is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Swiss Cycling and the Elba Island Tourism Association.
Elba will not lack the prominent names of the most successful movement of the last decade, starting with Sina Frei and Linda Indergand who have already tasted the taste of victory at the Internazionali d'Italia Series, thanks to the affirmations respectively of Nalles (2018 and 2019) and Montichiari (2017). With them there will also be Nicole Koller who inaugurated her 2023 with numerous podium finishes and aims to conquer another prestigious result in Capoliveri.
"We also came to the Island of Elba last year and found the ideal conditions for training and racing on a mountain bike. – said CT Telser. – In this period, the Island of Elba offers an ideal climate for training compared to Switzerland, exceptional routes, as well as a Hors Catégorie event that allows us to immediately verify the results of the work done. Sina Frei is doing quite well, but the same can also be said of Linda Indergand and Nicole Koller. I saw them in good condition in the last race held in Switzerland, although Sina and Nicole had some technical problems during the race".
Steffi Häberlin and Tina Zuger will start further back in the prediction of the Women's Open race, as well as the younger Gina Caluori and Lea Huber, the latter vice Junior World Champion in 2022 in Les Gets.
On the other hand, six athletes have entered the Juniores competition, representing the best of the Swiss youth movement, starting with Anina Hutter, an athlete already in great shape in 2022 and a point of reference for the category in 2023. They complete the line-up of the Swiss selection Sirin Städler, Lara Liehner, Jana Glaus, Muriel Furrer and Chiara Soler.
"Capoliveri also represents a great opportunity for our young girls Telser continued. – Lea Huber was a great protagonist among the Juniors last year and right now she is investing a lot of time in the study. Plus, there's the category-jumping factor for her. Different story for Anina Hutter who has already won this year and we expect her to continue on these levels in the rest of the season".
