Nino Schurter be warned: on Saturday 8 April in Capoliveri Legend XCO, second round of the Internazionali d'Italia Series, the World Champion will find a new exceptional adversary on his way.
Titouan Carod, 29-year-old Frenchman, representing Team BMC, will be one of the great rivals of the Swiss champion on Elba Island. Reigning French Champion and last year's dominator of the World Cup grand finale in Val di Sole, where he won both the Short Track and Cross Country (ahead of Schurter), Carod wants to break the ice in a start to 2023 that has already seen him climb to the third step of the podium in Banyoles.
The Swiss team, one of the most competitive in the world, can also count on a great connoisseur of the Internazionali d'Italia Series, the Italian vice-Champion Juri Zanotti, and on the very young Swiss Janis Baumann, bronze at the Championships U23 Euros in 2022.
“The World Cup is getting closer and closer and my form is growing. Race after race, I feel stronger and stronger,” admitted Carod. – “The competition will be fierce in Capoliveri, I expect an interesting race and to get on the final podium. I foresee a great fight to win this race and I can't wait to get into the fray”.
In the meantime, the BMC Team is already gaining confidence with the paths of the Island of Elba and the Capoliveri Bike Park, at the foot of Monte Calamita and its iron mines. “We have scheduled a short training camp in Elba before the race,” said Juri Zanotti. “Personally, I carry with me the positive sensations of Monte Tamaro where I competed in front of my fans, friends and family. Capoliveri represents another great test for my season”.
Zanotti also represents one of the most important cards of Italian MTB for the Capoliveri race, together with the duo of Team Santa Cruz formed by Luca Braidot and Nadir Colledani, the first two classified of the first round of the Internazionali d'Italia Series in San Zeno di Montagna .
The Capoliveri Legend XCO program for Saturday 8 April includes the men's UCI Junior Series race at 09.00, followed by the women's competitions (Open and Juniores) at 11.00 and the Men's Open race at 14.00. Competitions reserved for youth categories are scheduled for Sunday 9 April.
