Ah, the 90s… MTV, VHS tapes, Sunny D by the gallon. And, of course, the wild west that was the world's first mountain bike. Rigid forks. Outrageous paintwork. Glorious, shiny chrome. Long before the era of disc brakes and dropper posts came legendary scenes of bikers riding only with questionable cantilever brakes and some purple anodizing for extra style points.

When Canyon launched the Grizl gravel bike in 2021 many comments were “Gravel is just a 90s mountain bike!” No one was offended. Quite the opposite. To everyone at Canyon, it seemed like a hell of an excuse to indulge in some nostalgia and relive those halcyon days. So here it is: a tribute to everything that was big and good during mountain biking's pioneering decade. The Grizl CF SL 7 Throwback, a gravel bike that combines the iconic 90s MTB look with modern gravel bike design to give riders their kick of old school, 90s style.
The Grizl CF SL 7 Throwback is so much fun because you can ride big miles and you don't need to live next door to a bike park to enjoy it. With a stiff fork, 45mm gravel tires and dropped handlebars, the Grizl eats rough gravel for breakfast, with light trails still presenting a respectable challenge (and loads of fun, too). It's about pushing the limits without the need for extreme terrain. And that's where the Grizl CF SL 7 Throwback thrives.
90s design, not 90s components
In the design department, the Grizl CF SL 7 Throwback is a bike that does its name justice. With its pure 90s razzmatazz, this is a return to the iconic aesthetic of a truly unique era in cycling history. A stunning paint job from Canyon's in-house design team. Pink anodized stem details. A gleaming chrome bar. And special edition DT Swiss brushed aluminum wheels. If you were there, you'll know it, and if you weren't, you've missed out.
And behind the style is also a super capable gravel bike. Long gone are the days of unreliable brakes and skinny tyres: this bike is equipped with components that perform brilliantly in all conditions. SRAM Rival AXS XPLR wireless shifting not to be missed. Premium aluminum GR 1600 wheels from DT Swiss wrapped in 45mm Schwalbe G-One Bite gravel tires. Powerful SRAM Rival hydraulic disc brakes. All built around the light and strong Grizl CF carbon frame and its signature Gravel Pro geometry that is comfortable, stable and agile. Retro design, modern performance.
