Downhill on the trail, demanding mountain bikers and enduro riders want to focus as much as possible on the riding line and less on braking. Bosch eBike Systems now has a solution: the new ABS Pro for high-performance brake systems. It increases riding stability by allowing late, powerful braking without the front wheel slipping.

The control system optimized for sports passages downhill intervenes within milliseconds and allows the brake to react even more precisely on different road surfaces. At the same time, the brake pressure modulation has been optimized to achieve even better and more powerful braking performance even at high speeds on dirt roads or trails. The advantages for eMountain bikers: the “flow window” is extended, you can concentrate better on the trail, you pedal more precisely and you have to concentrate less on braking. For enduro riders and downhill, this means less stress on the body and therefore better performance and concentration.
Stable and performance-oriented
Fast and sporty downhills require good to sophisticated braking technique. With modern, powerful braking systems, overbraking can occur, especially in unexpected situations. Those who brake precisely not only master downhills more safely, but also reach their destination more quickly.
This is where the eBike ABS Pro comes in, which is aimed at experienced mountain bikers who want to expand their skillset: The trail-optimized ABS intervenes in particular in the initial braking phase to minimize errors. During braking, ABS Pro ensures stability, then the regulation decreases noticeably, in favor of maximum braking performance. This pushes eBikers to the maximum braking force on the road surface. The duration of the initial braking process depends on the rider's input and the adhesion level, i.e. the degree of grip of the tire. ABS Pro perfects the sophisticated braking technology and ensures that bikers stay in the flow during trail descents.
Two ABS modes for different needs
With the development of the new ABS Pro for maximum braking performance on the trail, Bosch has incorporated experience and technology from eMTB Racing. This has resulted in two ABS Pro modes: ABS Trail Pro for the most demanding mountain bikers and ABS Race for enduro riders.
The Trail Pro ABS mode is the new standard for any challenging descent and has been developed for more efficient, stable and controlled braking on soft road surfaces. E-mountain bikers can fully concentrate on the ideal line and also benefit from the rear wheel lift limiter on grippy road surfaces. This prevents the rear wheel from unintentionally lifting off abruptly when overbraking.
The ABS Race mode has been specially adapted to eMTB professionals and brake specialists: Fans of stoppies and switchbacks can use this mode to lift the rear wheel off the ground and offset it, since lift control is deactivated. “Our athletes tell us that with ABS Race they are simply faster. They feel more confident, achieve better performance and can gain important time on the descents. An added value for demanding bikers who want to push themselves to the limit on the trail,” says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems.
In racing, Bosch athletes who use ABS Race have already won world championship titles and achieved several enduro victories. For eMTB world champion Nathalie Schneitter, the ABS Race mode on the eMountain bike is a real breakthrough: “With ABS Race, I have more control on the descents and can brake later and harder without losing grip and speed. This allows me to fully concentrate and stay on the line.”
The two modes ABS Trail Pro and ABS Race can be selected via the eBike Flow app or the Settings menu on the display.
Improve braking behavior in the performance area
The Kiox 300, Kiox 500, Purion 200 and Purion 400* displays show the selected ABS mode and information such as distance, braking duration and the number of ABS braking operations. After the descent, you can analyse your braking behaviour in the eBike Flow app and compare the percentage of braking with and without ABS Pro.
The Bosch eBike ABS Pro is compatible with Magura’s MT7 and TRP’s DH-R EVO disc brakes, cannot be retrofitted and is only available for eBikes with the intelligent system. The first eBikes with the new ABS Pro will be available from specialist retailers from the end of 2024.
Consistent differentiation of Bosch eBike ABS
The new Bosch eBike ABS Pro with the modes ABS Trail Pro and ABS Race creates an optimal balance between riding stability and maximum braking performance. The world's smallest Bosch eBike ABS, presented in 2022, with the modes ABS Allroad and ABS Trail was specially developed with an additional focus on safety and stability. Also in 2022, with a special focus on urban areas, Bosch presented the modes ABS Touring and ABS Cargo for bikes such as eCity, eTrekking and eCargo. In 2018, Bosch eBike Systems introduced the world's first ABS for pedelecs.
