The seventh and final stage of the Enduro World Series 2014 in Finale Ligure opened with an exciting challenge. The riders have found the same summer climate as in the past few days, with the summer that seems not to want to leave the Ligurian coast. Competition at the highest levels from the first meters of the special stage, with some surprises coming from the first chronometric results.

Three different winners on the four special stages held today indicate how much balance there is currently among the top riders. At the end of the first day of competition, in fact, the top ten in the standings are contained in just 23 seconds, with real chances of victory for at least five athletes. Yoann Barelli (Giant Factory Off Road) placed the decisive thrust, taking the lead after winning the PS 3 and 4. Second, just 5 tenths of a second, Fabien Barel, who lost the provisional leadership in the last meters of the race and is followed by the young American Richie Rude (Yeti Fox). Jared Graves (Yeti Fox) controls from fourth place and sees the title getting closer and closer, as Damien Oton (Devinci - Alltricks) is currently ninth.

However, the 19 ”gap from the leader of the Frenchman cannot make Graves sleep peacefully, who will still have to attack on the last two stages and who above all will have to be careful not to make mistakes. Florian Nicolai (Rocky Mountain - Urge BP Team) is fifth, followed by Nico Lau (Cube Action Team) and Jerome Clementz. Eighth was the Australian Josh Carlson (Giant Factory Off Road), while Francois Bailly-Maitre (BMC Enduro Racing Team) closed the top ten. Positive the race of Davide Sottocornola (Rocky Mountain - Cicobikes Dsb), first of the Italians in seventeenth position, with Alex Lupato (Lapierre - FRM Factory Racing) not far away in position twenty-two.

Among the women, on the other hand, the first day saw an absolute domination by Anne Caroline Chausson (Ibis), who won all four special stages, leaving Tracy Moseley (Trek Factory Racing) at 58 "and Cecile Ravanel (GT Pulse Session) at 1'12 ". If the race ended like this, the result would not be enough for Chausson to win the title, now virtually in the hands of Moseley. With still two PS to go, everything is possible, but it seems that the English rider is able to control the opponents behind her without problems, in order to be able to close in peace behind her direct competitor.

Some hope of getting on the podium remains with the Dutch Anneke Beerten (Specialized Racing Team), while Isabeau Courdurier (Rocky Mountain - Urge BP Team) and Ines Thoma (Canyon Factory Enduro Team) are fighting for the fifth position, separated by less two seconds. The best Italian is Laura Rossin (Devinci - Dream Team), currently eighteenth and closely followed by Valentina Macheda (Ibis - Life Cycle), with Chiara Pastore (SantaCruz - Cicobikes Dsb) twentieth and third among the Italian riders.
Among the juniors, the dominator of the day is the French Adrien Dailly (Giant Trans Advance), who wins all the stages and leads with almost a minute over his compatriots Neilo Perrin-Ganier (Focus) and Sebastien Claquin (Us Cagnes Mer Vft). The tricolor flag instead flutters on the provisional podium of the Masters, with Stefano Migliorini (Frm Factory Racing) in command ahead of Gianluca Bonanomi (SantaCruz - ProM) and the leader of the EWS classification Primoz Strancar (Orbea).

There are only two special stages left at the end of the seventh Enduro Final, which will crown the 2014 EWS champions. Tomorrow the tension and excitement will grow and will culminate with the party on the podium immediately after the finish. From that moment on, the world of mtb will let itself be carried away by the party at the end of the race, which no one can miss!

At the age of 18 I passed into the cross country competing at national/international level as an Under23.
