The opening of the EWS-E season kicked off today when the best in the world traveled to Scotland's famous Tweed Valley hills for the first race of the year.
Competitors faced a huge day out, as they prepared for a 13 PS loop course that included 2800 meters of vertical drop over 65km.
Two Power Stages (timed uphill sections) included in the Special stages made the race even more selective.
In the women's competition, reigning champion Laura Charles (Miranda Factory Team) proved she remains the woman to beat, winning seven stages in total to finish the race 35 seconds ahead. Three-time EWS champion Tracy Moseley finished second, with Alia Marcellini (Fulgur Factory Team Valdinievote) completing the podium in third place.

In the men's race he was a new face on the top step of the podium: Edgar Carballo (Orbea Fox Enduro Team) dominated the race with eight stage wins, securing the first EWS-E of his career. Italian Andrea Garibbo took second place, while Leigh Johnson (Pole Enduro Race Team) finished third after shifting all his attention to EWS-E.
Miranda Factory Team now leads the team standings, with Orbea Fox Enduro Team in second and Lapierre Overvolt Team in third. EWS-E returns in fifteen days for the second round in Petzen / Jamnica in Austria and Slovenia.

The Tweed Valley event takes place this weekend, now it's the turn of the “muscle” EWS drivers for their first race this Saturday and Sunday.
