The e-Day Race continues to surprise: after the stages of Corigliano Rossano (see the video report) we go towards Sardinia, precisely on the island of Sant'Antioco, an island within the island (fourth largest island in Italy in terms of size).
Organizers the 'ASD I 2 Leoni MTB' with the support of the municipality of Sant'Antioco. E-day Race is the race format designed by Pippo Marani which sees at the start only e-bikes in a route designed specifically for them. What does it mean? Very steep climbs and winding path where it is difficult to reach the threshold of 26km / h. All surrounded by technical descents in wild lands "the e-bike does not call the combed routes“, Reports Marani.
With the E-Day Race circuit we want to dispel the myth that e-bike is simplicity and with the Sant'Antioco track we have seen: a 'wild' path that put all competitors to the test, not so much for aerobic fatigue itself (the e-bike willy-nilly always helps) but for the concentration and technicality it required. An average athlete completed the 21km for 530m of elevation gain in 1h40 ″, spending more than an hour on single track!

At the end of the race broad smiles from all the participants but tried faces: a different effort, more muscular than aerobic.

One of the best rides of the last 10 years - Mirko Pirazzoli
It would be nice to make us an Italian with this format - Bruno Zanchi
I had so much fun! Of course it would be even cooler unlocking the bike :) - Marco Melandri

In addition to the competition aspect, ample side entertainment with the fantastic hospitality that distinguishes Sardinia and, more specifically, the island of Sant'Antioco. The race saw the fight between the 3 favorites of the day with the outsider Giuseppe Monari.

Mirko Pirazzoli used all his experience to drive clean and put his foot on the ground as few times as possible: a fairly common situation in a course of this type. Marco Melandri lost in the fastest sections but was able to get close in the very technical climbs thanks to his excellent weight / power ratio. Even in the downhill single track he recovered where he certainly took more risks than Mirko, who was aware of the final stretch in his favor, namely the seafront towards Sant'Antioco: the only non-single track stretch of the route.

Bruno Zanchi had to raise the white flag due to engine problems: a pity, it would have been nice to see a real 3-man challenge.
Eventually, on the seafront towards Sant'Antioco, Mirko Pirazzoli releases all his watts and leaves Marco Melandri on the spot, going to win alone.
