The American Benjamin Cruz wins in front of the Italians Milivinti and Lupato. In the women's field, always Paulin Louise by a whisker in front of the English Winton Katy.
After the first day of the third Pro round of the Superenduro, the American Ben Cruz of Cannondale is leading the provisional standings. Behind him, after three special stages, Marco Milivinti is 13 seconds ahead of the Irish Greg Callaghan. The two special stages of tomorrow will therefore be decisive and, with great probability, they will run under water! The forecasts, in fact, do not promise anything good, so much so that the original program of the events (which included two Ps on Saturdays and 4 on Sundays) has been previously modified.
In fact, Day 2 is rainy and the second special stage has been canceled due to bad weather and safety reasons. Ben Cruz manages to manage the gap on Marco Milivinti who imposed himself in the only PS of the day. Third Alex Lupato. Among the women, the Swedish Louise finished ahead of the Swiss Caro Gehrig. A difficult weekend that of the third stage of the Superenduro Powered By SRAM 2014. In Madesimo (SO), in the heart of the Lombardy Alps, the weather significantly affected the race, with the organizers and race direction forced to change the program several times event.mjw_9203
The forecasts prompted the staff and the jury to have more special stages run on the first day, to try to anticipate the disturbance that promptly arrived.
Four special stages took place in total, three on Saturday afternoon and one on Sunday morning, which in the end saw the American Ben Cruz prevail, also winner of the PS Red Bull. The rider from Team Cannondale Overmountain accumulated a good advantage over the first two stages, which he then administered, containing the great return of Marco Milivinti (Torpado Factory), ultimately second and increasingly leader in the circuit classification. On the third step of the podium is the Italian champion Alex Lupato (Lapierre - FRM Facroty Racing), who precedes the Irish Greg Callaghan (Nukeproof) and the American Craig Adam (Giant). Davide Sottocornola (SantaCruz - Cicobikes Dsb) finishes sixth and third of the Italians, ahead of Mark Scott (Nukeproof), Nicola Casadei (Lapierre), Lars Sternberg (Transition) and Vittorio Gambirasio (Trek - Red Bike)
The girls' competition was exciting, with the third consecutive victory of the Swedish Louise Paulin (Cannondale - Oddonebici team), who despite a fall on the last stage closes with a 2 ”2 advantage over the English Katy Winton (Pivot). Third position for the Swiss Caroline Gherig (Specialized), with the New Zealander Gabrielle Molloy (GT) fourth and the French Mary Moncorge (Ibis) fifth. Laura Rossin (Devinci - Dream Team) is sixth and ahead of the Italians, who have suffered more than expected in Madesimo. In the last race in Sauze d'Oulx, Louise Paulin will only need a few points to win the title, in a season that started almost for fun.
The rain, which arrived on Saturday's third stage, never left the superendurists, who raced the last test in epic conditions on Sunday morning. Madesimo responded in a big way, with the usual warm welcome and with routes that made the riders who arrived from all over the world fall in love, conquered by the trails of the Madebike Park and the Andossi side. The terrible weather therefore did not manage to ruin the party, with some riders who after the arrival even left to do a couple of more descents full of fun and the true spirit of mountain biking.
Now only one stage is missing from the closing of the Superenduro Powered By SRAM 2014, that of Sauze d'Oulx on 6-7 September. However, in two weeks, the Staff will be busy organizing the first Italian round of the Enduro World Series in La Thuile (AO).
