On the eve of the most important day of these MTB world championships, the CT Mirko Celestine he had told his Azzurri that he did not want a good race from them, but that he wanted to see them run nastily. Simone Avondetto he managed to do both: he is the new XCO world champion for the Under 23 category.

A milestone reached at the end of an exceptional year, which saw the blue win the Italian flag and the title of continental champion, just a month ago at the European Championships in Anadia. Even a champion like the Swiss Nino Schurter he had crowned him as an “Under 23 player” at the end of the team relay in which Avondetto won the first medal of this world championship, the silver one.
On the track of Les Gets today the Piedmontese proved to be up to the greatest of this discipline, beating the French Mathis Azzarro of 28 ″ and the Swiss Luca Schatti, at 57 ″. The full result of Italy is completed by the 6th place of the blue Philip Fontana which has reached 1 ′: 49 ″.
“I'm still incredulous - the words of Avondetto immediately after the arrival embraced by the coach Mirko Celestine - I am European Champion and World Champion. During the race, as soon as I got a bit of an advantage, I wanted to try. Now I enjoy the celebrations and next week the last round of the World Cup ”.

The coach Mirko Celestino could not have hoped for better, who finally put his first world title on the board as a coach: “Thanks to Avondetto who gave us this great gift. Already with Giada Specia we had come close. Now this gold medal has arrived which gives us a wonderful satisfaction. It was a shirt that I was missing and I had been telling the boys for years. I thank everyone: athletes, staff and Federation ”.
THE RACE: Avondetto was in the lead right from the start, resisting one of the favorites, the Chilean Martin Vidaurre Kossmann, World Cup leader. As anticipated, the Piedmontese took the lead after halfway through the race after having distanced the Frenchman Azzarro and Kossmann himself. At this point his solo race began which led to a victory at Avondetto.
