Ineos Grenadiers had already cleared Tom Pidcock to resume racing late last week after recovering from a concussion, but the Briton saw no reason to change his planned preparation for the Tour of Flanders. He contented himself with watching Gent-Wevelgem from the comfort of his sofa last weekend before returning as a group for Dwars door Vlaanderen.
"I shut it down with 30km to go' Pidcock told reporters in Roselare on Wednesday morning, 'It was nice to watch as a fan, but it's more exciting to be back racing now".

Pidcock crashed from the Tirreno-Adriatico in the final stage and a subsequent concussion diagnosis ruled him out of the Milan-San Remo, where his Ineos teammate Filippo Ganna finished second. “I think it would have been a different race with me and Filippo there in the final“said the winner of the Strade Bianche. “But this was it. "
When Ineos announced after the Tirreno-Adriatico that Pidcock would be taking a rest "in line with established concussion protocols", it was initially unclear whether the rest of his Classics campaign was in doubt. Before Wednesday began, however, the 23-year-old said the rest period had been a precaution as well as a necessity, and downplayed its impact on his preparation for Flanders and the rest of the spring.
"I had two bad concussions. They weren't very serious but you have to be careful and take it calmlyPidcock said.
Pidcock hinted that training continued even though he did not take part in the races. Training without competitions has its limits, of course, especially at this time of year and in preparation for this type of competition.
"I always need to run to gain my best shape", He said. "I see that especially in cyclocross, it's hard to replicate that in training. Every year I learn a little more about how to do this. I should be OK today. Maybe not the best, but I should be OK".
If nothing changes, this is the rest of Tom Pidcock's schedule for the coming weeks:
- Amstel Gold Race: April 10th
- De Brabantse Pijl: 13 April
- The Freccia Walloon: 20 April
- Liège-Bastogne-Liège: 4 April
- Giro d'Italia: 6-29 May
