It is precisely from this need that the new 2,2 mm thick Shimano rotors were born, a solution developed to offer greater control, better heat management and superior durability in gravity disciplines, modern enduro and the e-bike sector.

When a modern mountain bike tackles long alpine descents, increasingly faster trails or the demanding uses typical of e-MTBs, the braking system is subjected to enormously greater thermal loads than in the past.
A thicker disc means more mass to absorb and dissipate heat, maintaining consistent braking and reducing rider hand fatigue.
For this reason, Shimano has increased the thickness of the new rotors from 1,75 mm to 2,2 mm, accompanying the change with a new design of the ventilation openings.
