A new gearbox concept that would be taller and maintain more ground clearance through the use of 3 pulleys.
More than half a century ago the rear derailleur for bicycles was born (Tullio Campagnolo in 1935) and since then there have been no substantial changes: this design proposed by Shimano always goes in this direction but with some structural modifications. One of the advantages of this design is the much higher ground clearance, which therefore reduces the risk of hitting the ground. The design shown in the Shimano patent has 3 pulleys instead of 2 and another of its advantages is that it works better with very large sprocket cassettes.

We close the article by saying that patents related to the cycling world are often not synonymous with the production of a real product: often the big brands, as soon as they become aware of news in this sense, try to clip the wings of smaller brands in the creation of innovative products. Shimano is among the cycling brands with the highest number of patents to its credit.
