A few weeks ago there was a surprising movement in the industry. SRAM has acquired Hammerhead, the company behind one of the most promising cycling GPS devices of the moment, the Karoo 2. This move has just had a side effect. Shimano will block some features, one of which included interfacing with the brand's Di2 electronic groups.
Starting this week Hammerhead will need to remove all Di2-related features used in their Karoo GPS via a software update. It is a request from Shimano that, after the sale of the company to SRAM, sees Hammerhead as a rival.
